Turkey will not wait for US "permission" to launch a new offensive in Syria, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in remarks published on Sunday, defying a warning from Washington.

Erdogan's talk of an offensive comes as he threatens to block the NATO membership of Finland and Sweden, which have sought to join the Western alliance out of alarm at Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

 

Bonus: He implied Greece and US are complotting together against Turkey.

Turkey is too important to be kicked out. Too short sighted to even say that tbh. NATO needs to wait out Erdogan and then build on some SERIOUS rapprochement efforts with Turkey so that an insane man like him can never be elected again. Erdogan is old and he is losing popularity in Turkey...he will be gone within a couple years. To kick out Turkey would be one of the WORST geopolitical moves NATO and Europe as a whole could EVER make.

Which would never happen because Turkey has the second largest military of the NATO countries and holds a key position geopolitically right at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East

If their interests conflict with NATO, they should no longer be part of the alliance. An alliance is only strong if everyone has the same interests. You can’t have an alliance with someone who wants to play both sides.

If the US completely cuts ties with Turkey, Turkey will act incresingly bold in Eastern Mediterean, fully side with Russia and theaten Greece's islands. If they remain in NATO, they will do the same but at least without explicit Russian backing. It's a loose-loose situation.
