‘26 World Cup US, CAN, MEX host cities (Speculation)

There’s a well known sports journalist that did some calling around to find out what US cities FIFA is thinking of selecting to host games for the 2026 World Cup that will be held in Mexico, Canada, and the US.

FIFA has already visited all contending cities and will (maybe) announce their picks in June. They’ve moved the date twice now.

According to his sources there are four American cities that seem to be a lock:

Greater New York City / New Jersey

CSA Population: 23,582,649

7938-F225-C9-F7-4-DA0-B45-B-11-E6-AF5-EA

Tea: Heavily favored to hold the final

Greater Los Angeles

CSA Population: 18,644,680

35726-B29-914-F-4-A8-B-A0-B2-934-ED6-FA0

Tea: May hold the opening game. In contention for that honor with Mexico City.

Greater Atlanta

CSA Population: 6,930,423

BE0-E1-A72-175-C-47-E2-8334-FE8-FC4-F79-

Tea: May hold a semi-final game.

Greater Dallas-Fort Worth

CSA Population: 8,121,108

37-F6-A5-BC-6-B2-C-44-D2-A38-B-F93-A3472

Favoured Cities:

San Francisco Bay Area

CSA Population: 9,714,023

3-A37-B330-DC64-4-E3-A-9-C83-4-B6-C65-CE

Greater Houston

CSA Population: 7,312,270

7-F691-FCE-290-F-4794-80-E8-326-C2-B34-D

Greater Philadelphia:

CSA Population: 7,379,700

510-F1-F4-E-9-FAC-4208-93-AB-520315-F76-

Tea: Philadelphia’s committee has raised more money than any other candidate city.

Greater Miami

CSA Population:  6,868,652

0377-B6-B2-F267-4-A58-946-A-38269-A6-AA6

Tea: Favored over Orlando as a Florida location but not a certain pick because of other events in the city that year.

Greater Kansas City

CSA Population: 2,528,644

AE56-C9-C4-38-F9-4-D65-84-C8-53-AD032-DE

Greater Seattle

CSA Population: 4,953,421

5-B3-E741-A-F27-F-4561-B181-35534-AA97-D

Boston, DC/Baltimore, and Orlando are not shut out yet and could replace one of these cities. Denver and Cincinnati were underwhelming bids and it’s likely that FIFA considers them out.

Mexico’s cities have been locked from the beginning:

Mexico City:

Conglomerate Population: ~ 30,800,000

BF88-A4-A8-4943-4-B08-B41-E-211217-CFCD8

Guadalajara:

Conglomerate Population: 5,268,642

2-A0-F86-E0-83-DC-4597-A880-2976-BB21-AD

Monterrey:

Conglomerate Population: 5,341,171

CB27-D832-58-E3-4-EE0-9194-A9-C6-B909-DE

Canada has seen some flux.

Toronto:

CMA Population: 6,202,225

CF43-CCA8-C518-4600-BD4-B-762153-FCC71-D

Edmonton:

CMA Population: 1,418,118

18745-C2-B-DF3-B-4096-9-DE0-D05-E9-FFBC7

Tea: Is likely but apparently they didn’t like it.

Vancouver:

CMA Population: 2,642,825

2-BE5-E5-BA-0-A7-C-400-E-B104-6-AB847-DE

Tea: threw its hat in very late in the game after Montreal backed out. Likely a lock.

If it is a joint Mexico/Canda/US hosting and the US hosts all of the landmark games then the co-hosting is a joke lol

It really comes down to venue and how impressed FIFA was by each city. Doesn’t seem like the cities outside the US (except Mexico City) really wowed them.

RIP Edmonton that was apparently so boring sources explicitly pointed out that they didn’t like it and is only likely to get games because they already said 3 Canadian cities. :rip:

It’s not that they’re bland. I’m guessing their committees just didn’t put much effort into their bids. They knew they were probably gonna get 3 Canadian cities and at the time only Toronto, Edmonton, and Montreal were in the running. The US on the other hand had 16 cities competing for 10 slots so they had to get more creative to excite FIFA officials.

New tea from the same guy, if anyone is even interested. :ladyhaha:

Boston’s bid is in trouble because of money. People on their bid team feel like they’re on the outs.

Edmonton is not a lock, which could leave Canada with only two host cities (Toronto and Vancouver) and the US with eleven host cities instead of ten. Washington, D.C. /Baltimore bid could stand to benefit from this.

Nashville, Denver, Orlando, and Cincinnati seem to be highly unlikely to get games.

The US deserves as many slots as it can get. It’s kind of ridiculous that cities like Seattle, San Francisco, Philly, D.C., etc are all competing for a spot and Edmonton gets one just because. Their venue is garbage too.

Its a joint bid. Giving Canada and Mexico two token venues and pretending its a joint effort is a laughable outcome and a mockery of the process.

I’m not arguing that Mexico should have any of their slots taken away. Canada on the other hand should definitely lose a slot. It has even less soccer culture than the US, has some of the worst venues of all bidding cities, and has a city (Edmonton) that doesn’t make any sense geographically for traveling teams. Axe Edmonton and add a city that deserves it.

A small news source is claiming that Dallas is in the running to host the inaugural game. Could be true and that’s why Dallas is considered a “lock” but as far as I know and as far as the plan laid out by the host nations, Mexico City, Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto are scheduled for “Day 1” games. New York probably won’t get the inaugural game because it’s likely getting the final and Toronto likely won’t get it because its venue is small. So Mexico City or Los Angeles seem the most likely. Don’t really know how Dallas fits in.

Cincinnati has agreed to pay the $40M for repairs and upgrades that their stadium requires to meet FIFA standards. How they made it this far into the process is a mystery to me. Their stadium is known as being one of the worst in the NFL and some of their training facilities leave a lot to be desired.

Kansas City is bussin’ their whole coochie for FIFA to get games. Missouri agreed to waive taxes on tickets sold. They’re probably safe though because of the Hunt family.

(A new update that absolutely nobody cares about :ladyhaha:)

The mayor of Edmonton responded to speculation that FIFA is awarding Canada two slots (Toronto and Vancouver) instead of three. We find out in six days what cities have been chosen!
