Chic 20,830
What lyrics have you been getting wrong this whole time? In Alexis Texas by Cruel Youth/Natalia, I thought she said “Me and my best friend go wild in the West End” but it turns out she says “Me and my best friend, the wild and the western”

PawUp 133
So, in Lana’s “Love” song I thought she sang: ”you get ready, you get all dressed up - to go out wearing particulars”. It’s actually “to go no where in particular” Wtf is wearing particulars? My fiancé doesn’t let me live it down.
StrawberryBlond 14,857
I've responded to this kinda thing so many times with the same ones so I'm going to make more of a focus on more recent songs that I've never mentioned before: Lana Del Rey - Honeymoon Actual lyric: "dreaming away your life" I heard: "dreaming of where you'll lie" Still hear it, still think it and still think it sounds like a good lyric even though I don't know if I can quite explain why. Camila Cabello - Havana Actual lyric: "he took me back to East Atlanta" I heard: "he took me back to his delano" Even though I know some Spanish, I had no idea of this word and ran it through Google Translate and it couldn't place it. I saw a lyric video and felt so stupid. I still go to sing it and I still hear it. To me, it sounded like a word that meant a beach house or something (and wouldn't be as basic a translation as "casa del playa" but would be a one word phrase similar to "cabana" and the like) as it was a song referencing a hot climate and was all summery. I think it shows that pop singers enunciation has a lot to answer for. BTS - Butter Actual lyric: "ain't no other that can sweep you up like a robber" I heard: "ain't no other that can sweep you up like a rubber" I can't be the only one. They clearly say a "u" sound, yet, clearly, it wasn't picked up in recording and it baffles me that they weren't asked to re-record it. Considering it was written by English speakers, I think it's pretty inexcusable that this was given a pass. I'll maybe do a retro version tomorrow as I'm suddenly remembering all the oldies now and they're absolutely hilarious! 3 hours ago, Chic said: In Alexis Texas by Cruel Youth/Natalia, I thought she said “Me and my best friend go wild in the West End” but it turns out she says “Me and my best friend, the wild and the western” Me too! Thing is, the original would make far more sense. She's from Britain and we have a huge connection to the phrase "the West End." For those who don't know, it's a reference to an area in a city that's upmarket with expensive properties and establishments, where you'd find celebrities and where you go for a big night out. So this line sounds relatable and cool to us. When I found out the actual lyric, I was somewhat let down as it doesn't sound as good or even entirely grammatically correct. I don't care, I still sing the original lyric, it sounds so much better!
