And now this discussion of Russia aiming to go further... I understand the West is hesitant to get involved militarily, it is not lost on me that it would inevitably amount to WWIII, and that is not something to take lightly. But also - what is the alternative? If Russia decides it wants more and more, do we just keep watching it happen? WW2 was a war started by revisionist Germany that wanted to challenged the status-quo after it almost reached world domination, in our age Russia has a direct memory of its Soviet past when it competed for infuence over the whole world with US. Both Hitler and Putin saw their empires crumble as young adults (Putin infamously calls the break up of URSS as the biggest geopolical catastrophe of the 21th century). The revizionist doctrine of Germany implied they should have acces to living space in Eastern Europe and subdue their Slavic neighbours, nowadays Russia sees herself as the legimitate ruler of Eastern Europe and as the nation fit for Eurasian domination. The parallels are certainly there, however, I personally still say NATO activating Article 5 should happen only as an absolute last resort, and when actual NATO territory is attacked factually (words are dangerous because they imply a worldview as I said, but still, they are inoffensive). Debithius 6,056
Y'all why are we talking about the middle east when this has to do with Russia wanting to conquer most of Europe? Anyway, happy NATO is there to protect each other. I am not sure how Putin would go about trying to take over Europe as he is struggling with only Ukraine. The Fame Monster 4,554
In times like these, I wish we had Marvel superheroes to protect us. Ukrainians are the real-life heroes now. 💙💛 I find it difficult to believe Russia would have the power, money and strength to start new wars when they are still struggling with Ukraine. And some experts say that this war could last for several months or even years. As long as the war continues, they will face new economic sanctions every week/month and it will hit the Russian economy really hard. I know it's not easy task to do but I hope we will see the western countries making effort to stop buying energy resources from Russia as soon as possible. To all the Europeans here I say, try to find ways to support Ukraine and stop supporting the Russian economy. Because we are still buying energy resources from Russia, I have stopped driving and started travelling by train. I try to use electricity as little as possible. I buy more local food and products. I'm trying to reduce online store orders. I know it's not much but at least I'm trying to do something. Find your freedom in the music
