heterosexual male interests are more male-focussed, but they do the exact same thing. look at any sports team rivalries, player rivalries etc

I know guys that have gotten into fights over American football :air:

All we really do is say mean sh*t about celebrities and their fans. Which still isn't cool but...

Because they shallow.mp3 as follk :river:

But it's part of human nature to compete for ressources.

Let's take Gaga as an example. If Gaga does succeed, she gets her coins and we get the good MVs, the good outfits, good make u( wait), the Stadium Tours.

But if she doesn't, then we get the MR videos and nothing else. So it's more of a preservation instinct.

Nothing wrong with it as long as it's not used to be sexist, disrespectful pigs (which is sadly the case very often)

There's a difference between a gay man putting women against each other and a straight man putting woman against each other. When a gay man does it, it's because they support one of these women. When a straight man does it, it's because he himself wants to benefit from it.

Also, gay men pit women against each other because male artists don't exist for them.

However, in doing so, gay men channel the patriarchy embedded in their psyche. And that's because the system itself is misogynistic. Gay men tend to be very extreme in either supporting a woman or dismissing her. And this aggression is very dangerous.

Straight men put their athletes or comic books  against each other.C.Ronaldo against Messi fan war is more toxic and petty than Stan Twitter. And let’s not talk about Marvel vs DC or whatever !!!

It’s really the media who like doing this. They have always likes to frame pop girls as in competition with each other throughout time:  Britney/Xtina, Whitney/Mariah, Madonna/Cyndi Lauper, Katy/Gaga. Gay stans are just part of the many groups who consume these messages and run with them.

No but, seriously, it's not only gay men, society in general likes to pit women against each other, it's sad and should never happen, that people put ones against others. :saladga:

The same reason sports fans argue over teams. The same reason rap fans argue over rap artists. The same reason an MMO fan base puts their game in a superior position than another an argue over it with the fan base of it. Women just happen to be the most involved in pop music that captures their attention. Confirmation bias, etc. A more thought provoking question would be “why do they obsess over the accomplishments of a pop star as if it’s their own?”

Women being pitted against each other is a fact of life across the board. But here's the thing and I don't know why this is so controversial to say...this is normal and it isn't bad. Comparison is one of the most natural things about being human. We act is if only women are pitted against each other. Men are pitted against each other all the time for their strength, their talent, their sexual prowess, their wealth, their general life status and more. Comparison helps us to be better, it makes us realise who we are and what we can be. As long as it isn't done from a place of hatred, I see no problem with comparing women. And I say this as a feminist woman. And I believe that a major part of how women will gain equality is if we start re-framing how we view other women into the way that men view their fellow men. Men think there are men who are great, men who are ok and men who are awful. This is considered acceptable and normal. Yet, when a woman views other women in the same way, she's called sexist and self-hating if she dares to say there's a woman she dislikes and made to believe she should support every woman. Which is, ironically, quite a sexist standard to have.
