The way she sings Love for Sale on the album is gorgeous but this performance was literally slurred at points, like she lost control of the words. And the "Jazz dancing" is really uncomfortable. She gives away all he poise and control. I think she's over affecting her voice to sound "Jazzy" and it's just making her sound strained and off-rhythm. I wish she'd stick to a clear vocal performance with grace of the Cheek to Cheek tour.

Agreed. It's almost reached the point of being a pastiche of a jazz vocal tbh

It’s completely fine to be honest about your opinion about a performance. Some people act like you have to praise every single thing Gaga does to be accepted in GGD and that is ridiculous. Almost every opinion in this thread has been said in a respectful way so your post is only to create unnecessary drama.

So much this. Jesus! People can't have a constructive, mature conversation about pros and cons of Gaga. It's so sad and reductive.

And to think some people are accusing people being critical of her performance of being "cult"-like when they're literally the ones saying everyone needs to unconditionally praise every single thing she does 💀

It was a 3/5 for her standards. There was no diction in the beginning, but she's way too talented to ever deliver a performance below that. Anyone giving her less doesn't have ears.

I thought she was great last night. I loved it.

I don't know much about jazz, and I don't know much about the technical side of singing in general (there's a good start), but my gut instinct is that the things that people are hearing on this performance that they don't like are largely stylistic choices rather than down to vocal decline.

In my opinion, she has not generally sounded as good over the last three years as she did prior to that. But within that three years I'm not hearing a steady decline. I think she's been up and down. I thought last night was an up.

Using the voice as an instrument is one of the main prerogatives in Jazz. And she did it pretty well.

She is not Ella Fitzgerald yet, and she probably never will, but it is still a pleasure to listen to her trying.

She’s not trying to be Ella Fitzgerald. Their voices are completely different. Could you imagine Ella singing Million Reasons in the same style? They use completely different technique.

Gaga sings jazz great. However, Gaga still sings it with a predominately pop style- because that’s who she is. She has great phrasing, and great timing- but it’s still more of a pop vocal than a jazz style vocal. Which is fine. That’s what I want and expect from Gaga’s jazz style.

I think vocally, she was really good but I don't really know anything about Jazz, and no matter how much I try to get into it, it just doesn't speak to me.

it was a little underwhelming because her voice was a bit pitchy but that's probably because she was extra emotional since it was a Tony tribute. Overall it was ok. Not one of her best but not bad either.

I preferred her vocals from when she sang it in the Westfield show, but she was clearly having a lot of fun here and her energy was still entertaining

I didn't like it, thought the second song was a bit better. But that's just my opinion. The audience loved it and it looked like they were on their feet for the entire performance? That's a legend move.
