I hope we come to a time when comedy is no longer used as a defence to say the most bizarre **** about people and communities and get away with it.

Same with "it was a joke" when someone's just being an a**hole. You said your thing, now face the consequences. Is Will Smith going to face any consequences for slapping Chris Rock? That's up to Chris Rock. Maybe the FCC too. God knows the Academy isn't going to take any legal action. This is the most publicity they've gotten in forever and that's what they've been starved for.

I always give comedians a pass for bad jokes ‘cause to me that’s just bad comedy and hopefully the next joke will be better, or, I can leave or change the channel. Will Smith behaved as trash, and forever tarnished his “win” on worldwide broadcast, to be remembered in the Oscars “incident” gag reels for decades to come. I can’t imagine any of his new Best Actor peers behaving so crudely at the ceremony. Over years, some of the worst cringy jokes have come from Oscar hosts, but mature people just move on.

That’s a tough situation tbh. Chris Rock not being aware of Jada’s condition would make this more acceptable, but that’s hard to believe. As for Will’s reaction, I’m afraid he’ll regret it for a long time. This was the Oscars, not some bar. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Academy chose to revoke his win, that was a sad spectacle.

There is no excuse for violence ever, especially regarding a joke. Will Smith has ruined his legacy in my opinion and he should be charged with assault. This was done in live TV in front of millions of people. Chris must be feeling terrible and quite embarrassed about it.

I do agree that it was in poor taste of Chris to target Will Smith's wife on her baldness as some people are very sensitive to this. What's next? Making fun of peoples weight and height? Regardless, this was not the way to handle this situation.

I’ve never liked rock or found him funny. It was a bad joke in poor taste. Perhaps he didn’t know about her alopecia, but you don’t hit comedians because they made a joke at your expense. It was assault and rock should press charges.
