it's a "disease" the same way that male pattern baldness is a "disease"

I started losing my hair at 17, bald by 21.

Never called it a "medical condition" and definitely not a "disease".   Both are (most commonly) caused by heredity and have only the effect of losing hair.

And, I think it's a joke that probably shouldn't have been made.  But only because this is a screwed up society where women's appearance is more sacred than men's.

The point I've been making is that it doesn't warrant violence and profane temper tantrum/threat screamed from a table at the Oscars.

Man, stop comparing women's hair loss to men's hair loss. It's offensive at this point. That is like comparing a man getting a mastectomy to a woman getting a mastectomy.

A woman's hair thanks to our culture is directly related to her feminity. And in the movie GI Jane she shaves her head to become more masculine and be accepted.

Girl stop already.

I'm saying that as a public personality, she chose not to hide it. Wigs and weaves are extremely common, and in the Black Community as well. It's something she speaks openly about, making fun of herself as well (not being a victim). She embraces the look fully, making it glamorous and normalizing it for people who have the condition.

Now, it's not a terminal disease, it's not a secret (like someone being outed publicly). So to make fun of it, there is a debate as to determine if it's acceptable or not. But sadly, that wasn't what the question was here: Will's reaction. We see awards show hosts make fun of people so many times, sometimes going personal. Think about Ricky Gervais at the GG, or Amy Schumer saying DiCaprio cares about the environment to leave a better planet to his girlfriends. We can also talk, in another context, of Drag Race, where the reading challenge is basically "make fun of someone's insecurities" and people love it.

Jada didn't like it, it's fine. Will laughed, then saw his wife's reaction. Then we know the rest.

When he won, he, in tears, talked about being a vessel of love, and that this love can make people do crazy things sometimes. I have two comments about that: 1. I'm sure domestic violence victims and survivors got shivers hearing this, that his physical violence was a manifestation of his love for someone. And 2. if he really was a vessel of love, he would have got up there, and speaking directly into Chris's mic saying something like "my wife is beautiful, no matter what anybody would ever say about it." That way, his love for his wife would have touched the audience (in the room and at home) and Chris would have looked a fool. Classy, but point made.

Last night was just assault, that was later rewarded. Disgusted.

Do some research on jadas struggle with her hair before sweeping  it under the rug so casually . she's been going through this process for about 3 years now and finally decided to go bald like 2 months ago. There's clearly some trauma that stupid unnecessary joke rehashed.

also what’s so bad about being GI Jane, a cool woman played by one of the most beautiful woman on the planet. Yes GIJane is bald but it’s not like her compared her to George Constanza. He literally compared her to Demi Moore

Yeah that's what I was thinking it's not horrible :selena:

oop another person defending the obscenely rich, if that had been some average poor/middle class person they’d be kicked out in  a heart beat but because it’s will smith he’s allowed to stay, accept his award, and take pictures with it afterwards.

But gurl now...if you are going to come correct then come ALL THE WAY correct.  There is a double standard for joking about a man's hairloss compared to a woman's.  Is there already  societal beauty standards women face that men don't? YES!  Are these  standards fair? Absolutely not!  You however CAN NOT negate an individual's level of pain or emotional distress based on their gender.  Don't try to invalidate someone's experience.  Just because someone is a man doesn't not mean they need to roll with the punches OR that they do not have deep emotional issues from their hair loss.  Body dysmorphic disorder affects men as well as women.

Could people stop being dramatic about this “health condition”, 140 million people have this “health condition”. This all comes down to the artifice and superficiality of Hollywood and celebs thinking they are Gods gift to mankind.
EDITED: I feel Jada looked at Will to get him to do something but there’s no evidence of this so I can’t just make sweeping statements and I apologise for previous statement.

where did i defend anyone? lol I literally was doing the opposite

People can have opinions either way without simping for a system of violence despite saying otherwise and also brushing off an ableist joke. like why is the only way people know how to "hold people accountable" is violence (be that will himself, asking for his arrest, etc.). Why is the only means of defending chris by saying the joke wasn't so bad or diminishing the impact of it when they themselves were not the targets NOR do they suffer from systemic violence in the exacting and precise ways that women, especially black women like Jada do?

THAT was what I was commenting on so you can keep your ridiculous, critically lacking comments to yourself.

What people don’t want to say is that Jada ruined the momentous night for Will, she made it a point to be dramatic about the joke, didn’t stop her husband going on stage and didn’t tell him to calm down. She made the night about her when it should have been all about him as only the 5th ever black person to win an acting award. She took that glory away because of her pride

so you're not disabled nor are you a black woman with alopecia so stop weighing in then like clearly you don't have a clear frame of reference. Her wealth doesn't really matter in this case as every person involved was deeply wealthy.
