Nicki Minaj had to do “the most damage control” after doing pop music

So is Redone supposed to cling to Gaga or? Does she own him? Or was he allowed to collaborate with other big artists at the time?

You are completely missing the point here lol. She said she was experimenting when she clearly wasn't. She used RedOne to become famous because he was the big hit maker. If she was "experimenting" she wouldnt have clinged to RedOne.

She can disown these songs all she wants, but they're what made her into a massive success. She's always been an artist who follows the money and if dance pop wasn't the big trend, she never would've done it. If she came up during the 00's when hip hop was ruling the charts, she never would've set foot in pop. What she did may have been experimental for a rapper but in general terms, it was mere trend-hopping. She dropped it almost completely when it started dying down again. If she's going to disown and regret these songs, she should at least be honest as to why, which is that she just followed trends because she wanted a hit instead of being true to her artistic integrity.

The fact RedOne never drops her name in the big artists he worked with says a lot tbh

I mean, I already knew that. This was always the discussion on hip hop forums back then. So she didn't lie.
And I have mention this time and time again that her Redone songs ruin her reputation as a rapper, and exactly why she haven't got any BB #1 song on her own at all; the hiphop crowds just doesn't have her back, no street creds.
Also, those damage control didn't work so well, though. Cos she then being a mess to anyone.

I think it's obvious where she is coming from and y'all just like to drag her for anything.

I was never a fan on Pop Nicki although I don't think she should regret it - I think it was a smart move from her.

At the end of the day, she clearly cares more about being recognised as a dope rapper and as one of the best rappers ever over having hits like a popstar.

Even now people judge her as a popstar even when she consistently delivers 'rap hits' and is clearly one of the most successful rappers out period (as well as one of the most skilled).

It's clear, even from other interviews, that her goal isn't to have giant pop hits. Yes she can have hits like DWHAP -but it wouldn't have mattered if it reached #2 or not.

What you need to recognise is Monster is seen as an iconic and massive record. It's still seen as her most iconic verse and it's widely accepted that she bodied both Kanye and Jay. That record peaked at #18 on the charts. You know if that was a Nicki song all the pop Stan's would be calling her a flop, but that would still be a huge rap hit and make her one of the most dominant figures in the genre.

Nicki would prefer to be seen as a rapper, she wants to be judged by her skills.

You know Kanye didn't get a top ten hit for MBDTF, Yeezus, The Life of Pablo, Ye, Jesus is King, Donda or Donda 2. He is still considered a GOAT and is a massive star.

You could say similar things about Wayne or Jay or the vast majority of Rap superstars.

"Popnika" caused a lot of backlash from rap fans and put a lot of pressure and unrealistic expectations on her from pop fans.

At the end of the day, Nicki's focus now is clearly on her legacy as one of the biggest and most skilled rappers of all time. She doesn't need hits like Starships to do that, and in fairness a hit like that would probably be more detrimental than anything.

Touch me come alive cmon and turn me on :music:

lol remember her last tour when she added Turn me on and her fans went crazy for it? Nicki just have to face it, it always been the pop that gave her a spotlight. She could own it and stand up against people in rap game that degrade her works instead but ehh whatever we got others artists now so :enigma:

The way they cover their homophobia with some passive aggressive shaming comments on female rappers
