Unpopular opinions: Madonna

IMO: The soundtrack album ‘I’m Breathless’ is one of her best works. I loved the jazzy, cabaret style and particularly her vocals.

‘Erotica’ is also one of her best and most experimental albums and I like it better than ‘Ray Of Light’

I’m not a fan of anything ‘Evita’ related  with her

Everything after ‘Confessions’ is pretty much meh for me.

’Live To Tell’ is probably one of the best ballads ever created

’Frozen’ is probably one of Madonna’s greatest songs

Always loved Madonna’s voice (especially from 1989 to 1998). She has a great voice for pop music and she knows she isn’t technically a great singer, but she worked it from every angle she could and succeeded.

‘I Love New York’ is one of the worst songs on ‘Confessions’

’Til Death Do Us Part’ is such a an underrated gem

‘I’ll Remember’ (while a pretty big hit) is very underrated as well and has some stellar vocals

The whole ‘Music’ era was a vibe and the entire aesthetic was a serve

Probably very unpopular: For someone as iconic and huge as she is, I feel like her vocal range is not very impressive. At least, not the one she presents across her albums/discography. If her live vocals are different then that's one thing, but her albums do not highlight that, imo.

I also see that even if I’m a Madonna fan :laughga: she was never a vocalist but she was smart and knew what to do (which almost killed her career) breaking boundaries which was very risky but established her as an icon. She has the charisma

Madonna and Gaga both robbed of Oscars.

What did Madonna deserve an Oscar for?

she is, at best, street-smart and business-savvy, not an actual thinker or intellectual, however hard she wishes to come across as the latter. and she tries really hard, which just foregrounds—to the trained and/or professional eye—the narcissistic traits of her personality. :ohwell:

forbidden love and intervention are spectacular songs. :vegas:

Bedtime Stories is her midlife crisis album and the r'n'b sound doesn't fit her at all.

*confessions on a dance floor*

that album is just so so bad the lyrics are unlistenable and the production is just so boring

by far her worst album post 1989

How High, Push Me, I Love New York and Forbidden Love are mediocre songs. American Life is a flawless album and deserved more. The production in American Life is simple but on point, Confessions instead have some amazing moments (Get Together, Future Lovers, Isaac, Let It Will Be) but most of it is just good or mediocre dance music. Nothing Fails, Love Profusion, Intervention and Hollywood are perfection.

This is one of her top 10 songs. It's so unique and mesmerizing, but I hardly see anyone ever talk about.

I’ve never understood why she wanted to remaster her first 3 albums? Is there a reason?

80s mastering is very stylised and (frankly) dated. The remastering is fine. Technology has evolved. It should've been a 1:1 remaster. Instead, Madonna did like George Lucas and re-edited the songs and the new versions are so inferior :noparty:
