I don't blame her for clapping back and being upset.

People are so flippant and cruel with their opinions towards women in music and it's honestly depressing. Sure, we all have our preferences and I have absolutely criticized some artists I'm not a fan of... but I keep it to GGD and not in direct, public conversation with the artist on twitter :bear:

Charli made the mistake in catering to what is now revealing itself to be a profoundly cruel and fickle fanbase. I think her current releases are the best in her career so far, so this backlash is REALLY confusing :awkney:

Mister G

The person criticizing the Crash era thus far is probably that Angela Chang person who used to spend day and night bashing Miss Gaga, and probably has the same commentary about Adele’s 30, Chromatica, Positions, and lord knows who else. Stay pressed; Charli will be delivering all year and we’re obsessed.

The original tweet really wasn't cruel in the slightest though? "they're not doing it for ME but I still love her" they didn't even say the song was bad, just that they personally weren't into it.

There are a lot of bad comments out there but I'm really confused as to why Charli decided to go for that one.

I really don't get why she's so overly defensive this era in general. She's had critics her whole career - its what happens when you become famous, lots of people hear your music not just those who like it, and everyone has an opinion. In general the responses have been positive, it's really weird she's lashing out.

I said "people are so flippant and cruel" - in this instance the original tweet was flippant. Everyone has opinions but not every opinion needs to be shared on a public f*cking platform that the artist in question uses frequently. If it's not for you, listen to something else. Spreading negativity is such a basic reaction to disliking something :bear:

As for Charli being defensive... not everyone is built to withstand having their personal work sh*t on by so-called fans. Especially when it's something you're super passionate about, and you're putting a lot of your own time and money into it.

I wouldn't say it was 'flippant' (disrespectful) either. They just said they weren't feeling it, not that the song was bad or anything negative about Charli.

Personally I kinda hate this whole "never spread negativity" thing lol. Like surely we know by now bottling up everything negative is never a good thing (I know in the case of an opinion on a pop song it's really not that serious, but the point still stands). It's always good to express our feelings as long as we do it in a respectful way (which that Twitter user totally did).

How boring would the world be if no one ever critiqued anything. And celebrities wouldn't even have careers if no one was talking about them.

It’s part of the aesthetic for this era.

Honestly I like when artists keep it real like this and don’t bullshit their persona. She’s human. We all have our angry moments.

Butters Stotch

Whaaat... this puts into perspective how incredibly hurtful some things can actually be to artists. Like, imagine saying to Gaga's face all of the negative things we've said here... Honestly Charli was so brave, and she managed to keep it together. I think I would probably just tell them to **** off and ban them from listening to all my music. If such thing doesn't exist I would invent it just to punish them for saying sh*t to me :ally:

StressedOut

Lol idk she tried to have an edgy, cynical, sold out, sold-her-soul manufactured popstar era, but then broke the facade a few weeks ago talking about how she felt bullied on social media?

And with beg for you with Rina she basically went on Twitter and said "stream this not-as-experimental song in the hopes I'll put out more experimental music" like ???

I loved good ones and new shapes, and baby is good too, but it's quite a distinctive departure from her last album, in a more catchy, hook-y, earworm, let's-get-this-on-the-radio kind of way and that's fine! But I don't find it surprising her fanbase is acting this way.

I mean... I'd argue her main draw is that she ISN'T a contrived popstar. But she's adamant on having a contrived popstar era.
