Dr Fudge 8,635
It’s a fun album! I think my only two critiques are that I wish it was longer (33 minutes goes by FAST jeez) and I would have liked to see Dare to Love Me in the middle of the album to have a break from the high energy for a sec rather than at the end. Overall Avril did good! Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years.

StrawberryBlond 14,881
It's just ok, probably her worst album, second only to her self-titled one. There's no bad songs, but everything's just kinda...there. And they're all too short to really go anywhere. The only ones I found to be above average were Love Sux, What I Wanted and Break of a Heartache. Other than that, it's halfway decent at best. It's a bit disappointing as Avril has always had awesome tracks on every album, but not here. It doesn't help that I'm not a big fan of this particular skater/pop punk sound that was so popular in the late 90's/early 00's, it all sounded so samey and emotionless to me. It's great that she finally got to make an album like she always wanted but I just think it pales in comparison to her earlier work. Considering that Head Above Water was, in my opinion, her best album in years and maybe her best one ever, to follow it up with this just seems regressive and at 37, these lyrics are very juvenile. Gigwise said that this is like a carbon copy of a 2002 sound that just doesn't impress in 2022 and I have to agree. If you want a throwback sound, you'll love this. But if you're wanting deep lyrics and growth, stick to Goodbye Lullaby and Head Above Water.

The good thing is that none of these are over 3 minutes long so it was nice that they didn't feel like they were going forever. FU and All I Wanted are more of the same but it's so cool to have Mark Hoppus on it. Dare To Love Me is beautiful, rock ballad. It's a fun journey, short but straight to the point of what it's supposed to do. I'm quite happy to see that Avril finally got the album she wanted just rocking with the guys. Thanks for the review, I agree with your review and because of you I don't need to write a full review on my own. I also feel that half of the album sounds same-ish. It is true that this sounds like old Avril, but old Avril had more variety. One would listen to her songs again and again, but for this album, while listening to Love Sux, I totally exactly felt as you described: I was happy that the songs are rather short because they felt after 1 minute already repetitive. I noticed that Avrils albums somehow lost their variety and all are so repetitive either in sound or in structure ever since Goodbye Lullaby. I am also happy that Avril is back to her old roots but she is not as good as her younger self. After having listened to the album two times, I don't feel the urge or need to listen to it a third time. None of the songs is bad but except for 2-3 songs none of them are excecptionally great. I am glad that Avril did not to again a boring lullably ballad album that is boring. But still... This album kinda lacks a "Hello kitty" song. It sounds rock-ish same-style and same-sounding. I think it's valid that she for once makes the FUN album she always wanted to do. I mean I'm happy for her, but this one was just not for me. I do like it and even if it's 30 minutes long I ended pretty exhausted to be honest. Like 80% of the songs sound the same and I just felt relief when it was over. Like 80% of the songs sound the same and I just felt relief when it was over. That's how I felt, too. When I was younger I forced myself to like the albums of my favorite artists and would listen to them again and again, with the hope and aim to "change my taste in favor of my artist" but after I got disappointed by many album released of my (ex) fave artists, I stopped doing/applying this "strategy". I listen to an album a max. of 2 times. If I don't like it by then, I'll give it up. There's too much good music in this world to spend and force all my attention on a lallala half-okay album that doesn't make me truly happy. The whole album Love sux is one and the same genre, yes, 50-80% sounds the same, and I kinda catch myself switching to other songs after the album was over. I think I will put Canonball and Love Sux into my playlist, (Bite Me is already in it), but the rest will not make it into it.
