Diamond Heart sounds empty af. Great melody, chord progression... but would benefit from more vocal layers in the chorus, or at least the second and last one. Shame, I love the song. Could have been more punchy and rocky.

Too many people here with moral superiority complex.

It's very stripped down which I think was intentional but also for the fact that she scrapped the original LG5 and the Netflix documentary seemed to show a stressed out Gaga trying to wrap up the album. The quality seems very bare and almost dare I say demo-ish on certain songs that have subtle imperfections and not as clean filtering.

Then again...Joanne isn't my cup of tea and I don't listen to the album at all. It's there for people who enjoy it but the whole Americana country vibe does NOTHING for me

Too polished, it should have had less of that commercial pop coating.

Imo her production outside TFM and BTW are too simple. Joanne and Chromatica specifically could use some more layers to make the replay value higher :bear:

Replay lives up to its name, tho :glamourpuss: .

OT: I think it was just perfect. If it was too electronic, I think it would've lost its personality while a too stripped down version would've made the listening experience very boring :bear: .

So Mark really did THAT :tony:

Ew, David!

I think production is great as it is, they could've added some more stuff to make it more interesting though

Absolutely not raw enough. 100%. The overall vibe of the album was her flirting with going in this general americana/bar rock space without ever stepping more than a pinky toe in its direction. The music does not go hard enough imo on both an emotional and sonic level. Album cuts like Diamond Heart and Joanne are evidence of her being capable of going in this direction, she just needed to commit the rest of the way.

I always liked the Angel Down work tape better than the album version, her vocals were more raw and honest, and the minimal instrumentation was perfect for me.

Agreed, however I do really enjoy the music box outro featured on the album version. Combine the two and its gold.
