Bling 31,446
Amidst Gaga's Oscar snub , I've been watching the nominated movies and wow, there was some fierce competition! I hate to say it, but I definitely see why she wasn't nominated this year, but I don't think it has anything to do with her. I think the editing/script prevented Patrizia from serving an Oscar winning performance. I still think Gaga was fantastic in it, but she needs more time. With that said, I have yet to see "Parallel Mothers" yet but here's my thoughts so far: Jessica Chastain, "Eyes of Tammy Faye" 8/10 - Great movie and impeccable actors, really gives you good insight into these people's lives especially if you had no knowledge of who they are. However, I still was unable to be completely shaken by Jessica's performance. Perhaps it's the religious aspect or Tammy Faye herself, but overall it was an awesome watch. Olivia Coleman, "The Lost Daughter" 9/10 - Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial debut did not disappoint! I can definitely see how some viewers would tune out, as it really requires your full attention and isn't a standard spoon-fed plot. There's so much nuance and emotion and subtle intensity. I loved it so much but it did require a lot of focus and it's more "arty" than I think some people like. Olivia was fully realized though, there was so much being said throughout the film that wasn't in the dialogue. Definitely 1st runner up for me. Kristen Stewart, "Spencer" 10/10 - This was just fabulous! And from the Twilight girl (jk). Actually I really have enjoyed Kristen's acting since "Panic Room", but I was blown away by her performance. It starts somewhat slow but you're fully immersed in the character as she struggles with fame, pressure from the royal family, bulimia and body image, and depression/anxiety. I was shocked at how much she looked like Princess Diana! The way she said things, how she tilted her head, she always looked like she was holding her breath before she went into a room. This would be my pick for Best Actress, even though I doubt they will give it to her as she is so young and the Oscars are more... political these days. Nicole Kidman, "Being the Ricardos" 8/10 - Full disclosure, Nicole is probably one of my favorite actresses ever. Did she fully embody Lucille Ball? Maybe not. But I don't think that's the point. You don't want a caricature of someone so iconic, you want that actor's interpretation of the person (similar to Renee Zellweger in "Judy".) I learned so much about the Lucy show and how Lucille was actually such a trailblazer for women and didn't take any sh*t. Her performance, at times, lacked some vulnerability which could just be that Lucille never showed that either. All in all, definitely worth several watches! I'll update this once I see "Parallel Mothers", but it's not on any streaming services right now so we just have to wait. Kristen for the win! So what did you think of the performances this year? MACATL 1,544
My pick is Jessica, though Nicole was surprisingly brilliant as Lucy. Kristin was great as well, and Olivia always is. Didn’t see Penelope.

Anderson123 38,501
I have yet to see all of them. Competition looks good but there's something about the ones nominated this year that haven't catched my attention. Something tells me that these are all great performances in kinda boring or slow movies (Olivia, Jessica, Kristen and Nicole) so I'm waiting til I'm in the mood to really sit and watch these without having the need to pause them. I DO enjoy these type of films but idk it's taking me time now. Unlike last year that I was on the edge of my seat watching Promising Young Woman. The script was good, the pace was good and obviously the performance was incredible. But anyway I'd like to see Kristen win it, it fits that she'd win it for that role. RichAssPiss 4,932
Stewart is my personal pick, but for some reason I really feel that when it goes to the general Academy vote Chastain will take it along with Makeup. It will be sort of like Darkest Hour where the collaboration between makeup and actor gets elevated. Ricardos is well-liked by Actors but nominated nowhere else. If Jessica takes SAG, I will predict her.

Like the title is literally "Best Actress" but often times they win because the movie was great or groundbreaking but it wasn't necessarily the best performance if that makes sense. BUT I thought "Spencer" was just so f*cking brilliant. It did take Stewart a little bit to get into the role, but damn I was just speechless and could not look away. The commentary on fame and mental health is so strong.

I resonated with the feeling of being trapped in an environment you see no escape from. Feeling suffocated. Unloved. Lost. Suicidal. Unrequited love. All of it.
