Plenty of info about music consumption, sales counting, industry scams...

The channel overall explains a lot about singing and music if you're interested. :)

Yeah that's not the most interesting part of the video. It serves as an excuse to explain how it works. :)

The fact that they used to call up retailers and ask how many albums or singles an artist sold is crazy.  The fact this was how it was done until 1991 is even crazier. :deadbanana:

Anyway thanks for linking, it was pretty informative. Though, I have to say, stans really do understand how things work better than a lot of people. I remember finding out labels had to pay for certification when I started paying more attention to Gaga - I remember stans complaining about Interscope being cheap to not certify something, because the stans  were tracking her numbers and knew she could get certified for this, that, or the other.

I wonder if anyone is ever going to write, or make a video about some of the industry using bots for streaming now. That feels like such a much lesser known, and seemingly taboo topic currently. I feel that tells us that there's industry people that don't want this known because they're using it for their artists currently. Like, there are a finite amount of stans, but with bots the sky is the limit. It's also curious that this big radio payola scandal that's been brewing isn't seeing much traction in the media.

Another thought, I'm not a fan, but I kind of enjoyed seeing BTS dominate the top spot for months on the charts. It just made it that much more evident that the charts don't really mean that much in the grand scheme of things, it's ultimately a shallow talking point, but the media (and stans) focus on it so much.

This video is about the change and the reliability of selling number and record certified through out the time, what's the problem?

True, the video was really interesting and frankly I had no idea about many of the things explained there worked

People forget that from the end of WW2 until the start of the 1990s, there was a single cultural event called the Cold War, an invisible barrier, that completely dictated how things were done. The world was literally split into two and technology and ideas and trends moved like a snail. The world became very globalized and things moved at lightning speed in 1991.

I think the payola thing not being picked up by media is the symbiotic relationship between the industry and many outlets. Criticizing a label's artist is one thing, but to drag the label's shady business practices into it could ruin their relationship. No more early listening, interviews, etc.

The payola scandal about Dua lipa and ava max? Yeah it's pretty much only known by pop stans...

Same with the doubt around Tidal streams being possibly inflated...

Yeah it's often the same massive groups owning artistic and media big brands so they won't use one of their product to expose an other of their product. 😂

When you know it's a reduced number of groups doing it, it's easier to imagine them all using these tricks and co-agreeing to not reveal it about each other as an oligopoly.

Well it opened the door to so many post 1991 music legends to not be as big as we thought...

I'm always scared we learn Gaga had her label paying for achievements through bots, payola etc.

Cause it could be true with the artists not even knowing. The game's so rigged I guess you would have to be crazy to not cheat a little bit yourself if you don't want to invest in vain sadly...

I heard it many times about Perry but is there any proof her results were inflated?
