I'm a huge fan but let's take a step back... There are too many biopics this year. Patrizia's practically unknown in the U.S. compared to Lucille Ball, Princess Diana and Tammy Faye.

House of Gucci is more of an ensemble drama, and it sounds like some of her best scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. 🤔

It's 2022. Gaga is no longer a newbie. Nor is she a veteran actress who's worked with many of the 1,336 members in the Acting Branch, who's PAID HER DUES and has never been nominated or hasn't been nominated in recent years.

And since she wasn't snubbed by SAG, there's no reason for Oscar voters to make sure to vote for her just in case she's snubbed, again.

Fact is, Gaga made it look easy. It's harder than it looks!

Yes, it's actually harder for pop superstars like Gaga, Beyoncé, Taylor, and Rihanna to cross over and be taken seriously... They have to work twice as hard to prove themselves!

CHER is an exception, not the rule. She's a pop superstar known for her outlandish outfits, but she did supporting roles and paid her dues! before she won an Oscar for Moonstruck (a Best Picture nominee with 6 Oscar nominations including Best Director and Best Screenplay).

Apparently.   How well an actress played the part takes a back seat to other factors.   Gaga isn't among those known for great performances over the years so she has to take a back seat to those who are well known in the industry.  And her promotion wasn't how voters would have preferred.  They call the award "best actress" but it's not based on who was the best actress.  Voters are influenced by many things other than the acting.

The snub was so major it made the national news.  On the evening of the day the list of nominations were announced CBS Evening News used the word "snub" twice in reference to Gaga not being nominated.  It was a busy news day with major happenings around the world to report, yet they made time in the half hour show to say Gaga was snubbed.

I’m probably gonna get blasted but maybe… the other actresses deserve it more? I was PERSONALLY so hyped about all the buzz she created with the method acting and then I watched the movie and thought some of her acting scenes were cute, but nothing PHENOMENAL tbh. Maybe the script wasn’t the best either.

Honestly, I don't think Gaga was snubbed... She was ALWAYS ON THE BUBBLE, #6, or #5. Variety was right all along. 🤔

After Kristen was royally snubbed by SAG - and Gaga was nominated, Variety said BOTH of them could miss out.

I'm no expert, but a SAG nomination is not much of a precursor now that the Academy has gone GLOBAL (as it should)!

SAG is an AMERICAN union for professional actors with 165,000+ members. The Academy is an exclusive club with 9,487 members, 1,336 in the Acting Branch.

There's been a sharp increase in international members in recent years, and SAG-NOMINATED actors in American movies (Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, etc.) were passed over in favor of INTERNATIONAL actors in international movies (Isabelle Huppert, Yalitza Aparicio, Penélope Cruz, etc.)

Meanwhile Kristen, thoroughly snubbed, was campaigning heavily until the VERY last minute. She attended screenings and did IN-PERSON Q&As at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and the Malibu Film Society during voting weekend! When you're on the bubble, every vote counts.

Even after Gaga was nominated for a BAFTA, Variety said she could STILL miss out (they had her at #5!) because House of Gucci is very divisive, based on their conversations with members of the Academy. It's too lowbrow and commercial for the Academy, but not for SAG, obviously.

HoG is not too lowbrow for BAFTA either... Ridley is British. HoG is nominated for Outstanding British Film.

i think it was still a snub, even without the SAGs and BAFTAs she was still nominated for CC and GG, she literally didn't miss anything, she even won a trifecta, she was the only actress to be consistently recognized this season BUT the oscars, how couldn't be a snub? by what you say she was snubbed because actresses campaigning and securing their nomination with voting members

i just think the “i wanted to be an actress much more than i wanted to be a singer” bit is so silly!! she shouldn’t downplay her music career like that

Out of everything House of Gucci related, this bothered me the most by far… it’s really hard for to hear that as a fan. Like it still bothers me a lot

I notice how the op quoted a man. He didn't want to hear her talking about acting method and studying acting, credentials and education. He just wanted her to say she was new to acting. :ladyhaha:

Multiple seasons of AHS, ASIB, HOG, plus all of her own music videos. ... This guy wants Gaga to say she's new to acting. :ladyhaha: Someone's male ego got bruised.

:fthis:

it bothers you that she had other passions as a person before she became pop singer? what makes gaga great is all the things that she drawn from her past and incorporated in her own ways to her pop music, it is not silly, and it doesn't downplays her music career. it is simply the truth and this is public and she's been telling this stories since she came out, she's not making up this stuff, she starred guys and dolls in high school, she auditioned unsuccessfully for roles and try to made it as an actress once she finish school and was in college, there's literally proofs of that, she was in the sopranos as an extra when she was a teenager...

I am not denying that she always wanted to be an actress, I know that, I recently rewatched the monster ball at MSG and she even mentioned it during that show! I am saying it bothers me when she says she wants “much more than being a singer” (which she said in many interviews) because a) it DOES contradict many things she has said in the past. & b) it feels belittling to her incredible career as an iconic musician, songwriter, and producer who plays multiple instruments, sings across genres, dances, EVERYTHING.  Like in my mind she truly is one of the best musicians of all time. So I just feel like she can promote her acting more without belittling her music career. I am NOT saying that she is lying or anything like that. I’m just saying it could be said with more sensitivity to the fans
