Then to say that the holocaust was a racial issue would be far more problematic than what Whoopi said because you'll be implying that Jewish people are a different race and they are not. They are a different religion. Your believes do not change your race

Please do some basic research before spewing out stuff like this… Race was a completely different thing 100 years ago. Jews, Slavs, Italians, etc. were considered other races to Western Europeans.

I get the Nazis put them at the bottom of a racial hierarchy but that was 70 years ago. Can't we say, in 2022 that they are not a race but an ethnicity based on our 21st century definition? 

My understanding is that its a religion AND ethnicity - hence the term "ethnic cleansing" to describe the holocaust. I mean, Jews are primarily white, at least in Canada. Claiming that we are being racist to Jews is like white people saying the same thing and it comes off weird.

I did some research and found the image below. Other than the stereotype of big noses, and maybe some tanned skin if thier middle eastern / Sephardic Jews, the lack of physical traits that differentiate Jews is unsubstantial. I have met many Jews and they all looked WHITE. Other than the Orthodox ones, they dress pretty much like the average person, but I have also been to bar mitzvahs and saw no one dressed like a "Jew" honestly. 

Based on all of this, we can conclude Jews are not a race but an ethnicity, at least in todays definition. I fee bad for Whoppi - she did mess up in saying it wasn't a race issue (based on todays definitions - she is correct) but the Naz*s definitely racialized the Jews in those times.

Something I had to wrap my brain around at one point is that following Judaism and being Jewish, while they tend to overlap, are actually two different things

A bunch of people were won over by a silver tongued and charismatic leader and ended up "following orders" from that same leader turned genocidal maniac which led to the suffering and deaths of millions of Jews, black people, gay people, immigrants, disabled people, and captured enemy soldiers (especially Russian soldiers).

I guess...she should have said it was about "more than race" rather than saying it "wasn't about race" and expanded saying the limitless cruelty on display was sickening beyond belief.

If you look at your chart, you can see that ethic lines are easy to cross, but that is not how nativists and groups like the nazis saw Jewish people and other groups. You could not “fix” a Jew in the eyes of Nazis, like Americans tried to “fix” or Anglicize Natives by sending them to camps. The Germans saw groups such as Jews and Slavs as incurable races that had to be killed or exiled. It may be easy to label it ethnic cleansing for modern discussion but in many ways that simplifies the extremes of how society viewed race back then.

Yeah and the comments were not made 100 years ago. She used the modern definition of race and Judaism is not considered a race today
