One of the most basic principles is ensuring you don't just kill other members of society.

But it's proven that vaccinated people spread the virus, therefore it becomes a personal choice to protect yourself or not. If some people would rather play with lottery and die or not die because you can survive it, then it's up to them. Getting vaccinated does not mean you won't get the virus or get hospitalized, you are more likely to survive very severe cases, but that's individual not group, as it doesn't create immunity either, or else variants wouldn't show up left and right. So this argument is completely wrong

But if y'all want to suggest we imprison anti-vaxxers rather than fine them, I'm cool with that too :flower: it's been two years since covid really hit and vaccines have been around for centuries. Anyone who's against them is really just a detriment to society at this point and they're holding the rest of us back. Lock 'em up, fine 'em, I don't really care :laughga: I know that's callous but meh

Putting someone who doesnt believe in science in jail is good? So what now, we put people who believe the Earth is flat in jail too? With rapists, murderers, pedos? Same cell? To you that's worth putting someone in a small cage? Medieval thinking

I see your point here given that now there's more evidence that it still spreads when you're vaccinated.

However, there are ways of indirectly killing / harming people as well. If you are vaccinated, you are so so so much less likely to need hospitalization if and when you get sick.

Hospital beds are filling with unvaccinated covid patients to the point hospitals are having to turn away other emergencies, delay cancer treatments, surgeries, etc. Healthcare workers are stretched to the brink and I'm absolutely sure the industry is facing a mental health crisis. What in the world would we do if suddenly we lost all our doctors and nurses?

The impact goes far beyond the individual.

You do realize that those things are connected? If you are vaccinated you are more likely to have a mild infection, therefore also less likely to be hospitalized. Right now covid cases are at its highest worldwide, however the hospitalization rates are much lower compared to last year around the same time. This means the vaccine IS doing what it's supposed to. It's not "just an individual choice" because you're helping preventing the collapse of the health care system.

Chris Evans

their CHOICE to be misinformed has led to hundreds of thousands of needless deaths- at some point someone had to put their foot down. Kids have always need their vaccinations for school, this is no exception.

Horrible to think that a decade ago this wouldn't have been a problem but Facebook/the GOP never cared about the truth as long as it benefited them

this is so absurd and i'm genuinely getting scared about what society is transforming into. Am i triple vaxxed? yes. Do i Think unvaxxed people are being total ignorants? yes. However,  do I think that these sh--tty politics are unnecessary and super problematic for several reasons already stated here? hell yes. Specially during these times of a dominant variant that not only several friends i have in biotech and medical sectors but many health experts are saying it's the best thing that could have ever happened in this pandemic and that has been proven (by Facts and numbers) to be less dangerous and lead to less severe cases and is avoiding pressure on the Health system.

If only they put the same amount of effort in finding covid's origins (which are Indeed still unknown but there are several leads) that they are putting in these politics....THAT would be something to talk about...let me tell you :icega:

i don't care it's gross. no government should have this much control over someone's medical decisions. as i've said before, you can influence and pressure them as much as you want, but the minute you start doing stuff like this, it's authoritarian. people who don't get vaxxed are selfish and gross and hugely misinformed, but i still don't wish forceful vaccination upon them. on top of this, poorer antivaxxers are gonna default on their rent and potentially lose their homes because of these fines, whilst richer ones aren't gonna care and will just pay the fine.

it sets a dangerous precedent.

They are not forced to vaccinate, they just have to pay the fine.

the government's involvement will disproportionately effect low-income individuals--there by robbing them of their choice.

If these "low income" people get a vaccine, they won't suffer. Sorry, but this lame "think of the poor people" excuse doesn't work anymore. Get vaxxed or suffer. We need to stop treating these people like they're some persecuted class of people, when they're choosing to be stupid.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

"Get Vaxxed or suffer."  Do you work for the marketing department of the Austrian Health Ministry by any chance? :toofunny:

Steep fines as punishment for not being vaccinated only ensure that vaccine hesitant low-income individuals do not have the same choice as their vaccine hesitant wealthy peers. The government is taking away the bodily autonomy of poor folks, while allowing the wealthy to do whatever they like.

Just because there's a less threatening variant now doesn't mean that we should stop requiring others to get vaccinated. With the amount of infections more variants are imminent.

What's finding the cause of the virus good for? They're not gonna prepare for another pandemic either way.

REALITY

To all the people who think this is outta line, I think you must've forgotten, this is a ****ing pandemic.

The point of getting the vaccine isn't to keep YOU safe as much as it is to keep OTHER PEOPLE SAFE. Sure, maybe you contract COVID and it doesn't affect you as much, but you could be actively spreading the virus around to other people who are more susceptible to it. If more people are vaccinated, the virus has less of a chance to infect people and if it does infect people, you're more likely than not going to have less severe symptoms. There is literally no incentive to not get the vaccine.

Drastic times call for drastic measures. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. if after 2+ years we still haven't gotten this sh*t under control, then we need to resort to more drastic ways of making people get the vaccine. Just know that it's the unvaxxed people and their propaganda that are prolonging this pandemic. At some point you need to punish them for being total dumbasses.
