By the way, IMHO, people just already choose their movies to watch for the rest of this month of December. Which is Spider-Man No Way Home. Lots of families in USA can only do outings to cinema for once a month since going to cinema is not cheap. So I feel like this movie will do good in secondary market such as PVOd (iTunes & Amazon), or better yet on Disney+ or Hulu streaming service, since it is Disney Fox properties.

Do people know those "classics" outside USA? Just curious because, I never heard of ASIB before the 2018 remake. I also didn't know anything about WSS. Maybe, not even in the USA, those movies are well known as Hollywood think they are. In 2018, seeing some haters saying that ASIB was that successful because it was a remake of a very popular movie, I was like, what? For me, it was successful because of Gaga, and it would have failed with any other singer. I don't know if studios go out on the streets asking people if they know about a movie before investing millions in a remake, but they should do it.

President Biden

:laughga:Maybe bc nobody wants ro see a movie starring a publicly accused sexual predator

Not to mention, West Side Story’s target demographic (Women) are least likely to be tolerant of this bullcrap that they casted someome with such allegations

Both previous versions of ASIB and West Side Story are absolute classics and, arguably with the exception of the second version of ASIB, these movies are a major part of movie history. That does not mean that every person on the planet has heard of them, and while younger generations are more likely to be unaware of some older classics, that doesn't take away from their legendary status.  I've met people who had never heard of Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra.

The musical toured all of Europe, Russia as well as Asia. It's literally one of the biggest stage musicals of all time, not to mention the original film.

For all of you ragging on West Side Story, it garnered 11 Critics Choice Awards nominations, leading the pack alongside Belfast. There are more ways to judge quality than box office returns over two days.

This. Box office is in no way indicative of quality, especially in 2021.

I like WSS and want to see it (despite Ansel being in it) but I'll wait until I can watch it for free.

Well my sister unexpectedly asked me to go see it with her and offered to pay for my ticket so I saw it for free :toofunny:

It was honestly really good! Way better than I thought it would be.

I saw it on Friday. It’s actually done very well from a cinematic perspective; I enjoyed it and will watch it again. I wonder if the accusations against Ansel are hurting it?

I enjoy many musicals but I hated this film. Great performances and directing, but the music and story were absolutely dreadful. Glad other people are liking it though.

Pussy Like Pepsi

I thought about going to see this because this seems to be the only decent movie at the cinema atm but then I remembered I don't even like musicals. Which is weird because I love music and movies but I don't care for musicals at all.
