If her ancestors immigrated THAT far back, then she should really stop calling herself Italian! She is American with Italian and French-Canadian heritage like Madonna. Her family has long since assimilated into American culture and society and they have nothing in common with Italian nationals!

I mean she identifies as Italian American, which she clarifies a lot. Being Italian American means a lot more than being a person “assimilated into American culture” with heritage from Italy, it comes with a history of culture, tradition, and discrimination.

She still has claim to Italian citizenship by descent, in which case yeah she is Italian and was "born Italian". She just needs to have her citizenship recognized at an Italian embassy or consulate. I wonder if she has already got her dual citizenship or if she plans to get it soon. It would be so easy for her. I'm sure they'd be thrilled to process it for her very quickly.

Wow thats early. Would that make him among the first?

I know here in Canada South Europe Immigrants didnt really start immigrating in larger numbers until the 1960s which then lasted until about the 1980s

Portuguese, Italians, Greeks etc that came before were in small numbers

In the US the largest migration of Southern and Eastern Europeans came mostly during the late 1800s and early 1900s

That’s really cool! My grandfather arrived to the U.S. on a ship from Italy to Ellis Island. Even changed the family name to Americanize it a little more! An incredible man, he was a Marine and went on to work as an electrician and ran his own business. :vegas:

Interesting

Here in Canada North Europeans were dominant for a long time

Then mid 20th century South Europeans put in some strong competition

Then after 1980s European immigration both southern and northern has mostly died. Its been mostly Carabean, Asian, South Asian and African ever since
