I have my mixed feelings about this album suddenly becoming one of the highest rated on metacritic of all time just by being rerecorded and the general overratedness... but it's also amazing how powerful she is and how much she knows how to market herself

to be fair it also has new songs on it, so it isn’t strictly just a re-recording.

Yeah but it just doesn't make sense that a bunch of demos/scraps that didn't make the cut on the original were able to bring a 77 to a 94. The album is really not that groundbreaking and not even Taylor's best... to be ranked above some masterpieces... feels like it's hype on hype

I agree! The production of the re-recordings is not as good as on the original album and the TV album is long and bloated with so many tracks. It is not cohesive and certainly does not deserve higher acclaim than the standard Red album.

I will say, the original release received MASSIVE retroactive acclaim. Back in 2019 it was on almost every single best of decade list, high up in many of them. It’s since been added to many all time lists as well.

The re-record acclaim is a lot of critics saying they were wrong when it first came out and voicing how they feel about it now.

I think the same thing would happen if Gaga were to re-record The Fame Monster, or if Kanye re-recorded 808s, etc.

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

I wish someone would wake me up from this farce. An extended 10 minute re-recording of an album track from 8 years ago is about to go #1 on Billboard? And there's another version of the re-recording? And people are actually buying this? People, please stop supporting crazy rich artists deep dives into vanity projects. This is all about profit and is being sold as an artistic statement. And it's driving me crazy how I Bet You Think About Me sounds almost completely like Billy Joel's Piano Man, especially the harmonica melody and yet NO ONE has brought this up. Maybe Taylor will know what it's like to be sued for a change if anyone does.

That is tea, I wish Gaga would rerelease her early music. They'd eat it up

A lot of albums get better rated in retrospective reviews, for example Pitchfork reviewed Red (original) years after its release and gave it a 9.0 score I think. Taylor's version got 8.5

Original reviews don't take into consideration the cultural impact an album may have in the future, I'm sure if Born To Die, which was heavily scrutinized and misunderstood at the time, was re-reviewed today it would be praised for what it was given its impact.

You also have to take into consideration that back when Red was released half of the people were criticizing Taylor for dating men, not the album itself. Sorta like how it took like 3 albums for people to finally shut up about Gaga's meat dress in the album reviews.

I would love it if Jake also released his own version of All Too Well. Its about time we had a modern day equivalent of FU/FU Right Back

If I was him, I'd find that scarf, take a picture with it, post and disable comments and then go offline :huntyga:

also, her songs on Taylor's version are some of her best songs ever, like wow. i totally see why critics right now are getting their lives with this record and giving it a great reviews.

plus! just imagine hearing updated versions of So Happy I Could Die and Teeth. :bradley:
