Cattails are edible!  Native Americans, early settlers, and many current rural folks grind them up into flour that you can use for baking pancakes.  The pollen in them makes the flour full of extra protein as well!  You can also eat the young stems as a snack, grind up the roots to make a starchy thickening agent for stews, use the stalks as shafts for arrows, and plait the leaves into placemats and floor mats.

This is actually really sad. American education system is BUSTED and failing millions of kids. There is also alarming statistics about the number of american kids who cannot properly read, do basic math, dont know a single thing about geography etc...America really needs to reform their education system and make it a priority. How can you be the leading hegemon in the world yet have such huge education gaps in your society. It is really troubling

Does the US just have literally no food/nutrition education? Even back in my small town in New Zealand in the 90's my tiny primary school of like 90 students had a curriculum that taught us about fruits, vegetables, meats, nutrition, being active and healthy, eating 5+ fruit and veg a day, the food pyramid of healthy foods/all the time foods vs unhealthy foods/sometimes foods, drinking 8 glasses of water a day, that a meal should be meat and 3 veges (some of which is a bit outdated now but it was still a big part of our education). We even had a small cooking unit where we made simple meals on gas cookers. Then we had to do take cooking classes at intermediate at 11/12 years old (along with things like sewing, electronics, woodworking, a little bit of Maori, French and Japanese)

I mean, it's a country with one of the highest obesity rates. Nutritional education is something that really is in need there. Also mentioning that the majority of obese people in the Us are poor and/or black, a huge reflection of the inequality caused by the idea of "economic liberalism and no commie social initiatives"

No hun it's all meat, potatoes, and McDonald's here  I eat mostly plant based but the nutrition education here is zero. Michelle Obama actually did a lot in the schools for education and getting kids moving. But I believe a lot of that has been undone by the Trump "Administration"

That's so crazy man. People just don't even have a chance. It's soo crazy to me that grown adults can literally not understand nutrition. I've seen so many cases of Americans thinking that potato chips and mc donalds are healthy and not understanding why you should drink water instead of soda etc. And when I was younger I was judgemental because I thought it was ignorance, but it's actually a lack of education. Education that I thought was basic education and common knowledge. I also just don't understand why a country wouldn't want to invest in this education
