TBH jazz is very much NOT mainstream in the US.. nobody's gonna wanna listen to jazz music during a pandemic..

Honestly no idea why charts matter so much to some of y’all. Just enjoy the music

i hope these numbers don’t deter her from releasing a solo jazz album

These numbers are expected, I expect to go up a bit with the 60 minutes segment.

Tony isn't much of an album seller, his last album with Diana Krall did 28-31k in the first week.

And Gaga's star power is heavily overestimated, she's no Taylor Swift or Adele. She's heading towards Alicia Keys and Kelly Clarkson status, they're beloved music veterans with public recognition and decent-size fan base.

This thread is really weird because in one side you have people telling others they are obligated to buy something and in the other side you have people happy that their fave is flopping. Weird behavior.

I still think this can snatch a AOTY nomination, the field is so weak this year and they've a lot of promo lined up with thanksgiving special and documentary on paramount plus.

I know having this top the charts would've been a cool gift to Tony but I was watching the Zane Lowe interview last night and when Gaga told him about Cheek To Cheek being #1 his first response was to ask her if she wanted to do an all Cole Porter songs with him. This just shows you that Tony is a legend and doesn't really care if it sells thousands of copies, he just wanted to make music with Gaga and that's such an honor to her. She promised him that they'd make it and look at it now, it's out everywhere.

The cherry on top of this would be if it gets a Grammy and they honor him (if his health allows this to happen by then) but even if it doesn't, just look at Tony's legacy.

Honestly the numbers I was expecting. A jazz record released in this day and age was never going to hit six figures in its opening week no matter who was releasing it. This style of music simply doesn't command huge numbers. I think a big part of it is the rather niche nature of the tracklist. I'd genuinely only ever heard of one song from the standard version. C2C by comparison had a lot of notable standards that a lot of people recognise at least by name alone which likely helped its sales immensely and it was the first time their partnership had ever been done. Plus, they had the big promo with H&M at the time and Tony was still active and performing with her and touring. It's all different now - this is an album for the fans of each artist, jazz lovers and jazz critics and with limited promo, it's going to have to speak for itself. Don't forget that once it hits the charts, more promo will start picking up and the special will be aired close to Christmas, which is when it'll start popping again. I only view studio albums as truly Gaga's work anyway, her collab albums are just side projects so if they do well, fantastic, but it's not essential. And the world won't end if it doesn't go #1 in America, there's plenty of other markets where it stands a chance.

This cant be true whit all this different versions??:wtfga:

Honestly, (and I'm honestly asking) why would anyone buy multiple copies of the same album for different cover art that all kind of looks the same?

Most of her original fans are pretty much like 30 years old at this point... I'm about to be 28. Why do we care about album chart positions after this long of a historic, record-breaking, ground-shaking, decades+ spanning career? It's great for a jazz album, but jazz just is not in, and the target audience demographic will listen to the original versions of the songs instead of more updated covers of the same songs.

See, I L O V E JazzGa. If the lady decided that her pop career was done and she wanted to sing jazz forever, I would be 100% here for it. But even I was a bit underwhelmed by L4S. Only a bit and it's by my Gaga standards so...

There's definitely some gems and I'm planning on buying physical copies at Target in addition to the pre-orders I already put in but...idk? I think it's the song choice for me. I wish they would have strayed away from the standards and Cole Porter. There's so many good jazz goldies that they've passed up on in favor of these songs. I just hope Gaga puts out solo jazz records covering them.

I still need that proper cover of My Romance as well as all the songs she does at the J&P show :bradley:

I guess it's also their interpretation of some of the songs. I wish there were more on the ballad side instead of the swing/dancy styled songs. A prime example would be to compare Ella Fitzgerald's version of Love For Sale to TonyGa's version.

Just imagine them singing it like this :bradley: it's Smile all over again, I swear :cryga: when she sang Smile for the covid benefit thing I was crushed that she was so "boppy" with it instead of making it a ballad like MJ's version.

WHY :cryga:

Anyway, tl;dr - there's my criticism of L4S. And it has more to do with my taste than anything, really. But I definitely feel C2C is the stronger album out of the two. That on top of a proper promo schedule, a healthy Tony, and no covid and I'm not surprised L4S is only getting a fraction of the sales C2C got.

But "music, not the bling" :vegas: it's a sentimental goodbye to Tony's career and will likely be one of Gaga's favorite releases because of that. That's what really matters in the end.

You hit the nail on the head here.

I was disappointed with their version of Love for Sale. Ella's version is so smooth, that's the kind of vocals I was expecting to hear.

Gaga tends to take a theatrical approach to her vocal performances, which can get a bit grating to the ears sometimes.

Yeah, it's not bad by any means, I just personally wish they had taken a different approach :diane:

I agree with you on everything you said except this. Gaga has always been bigger than this two artists on every metric, and it will probably be this way for long time.

the scars on my mind are on replay.
