DavidLuis198 839
So, today's show was amazing, Gaga vocals and her stage presence were through the roof and it was a breath of fresh air after such a long time of no new live content from her. During this presentation she shown us again how her love and stand for the LGBTQIAP+ community (witch she’s a part of, of course) was never a trick to win easy fans and she seems to always be observant of new topics and discussions. She shown this today affirming (once more) on her bisexuality, talking in a playful and natural manner about pronouns and of course, about being kind with others, but also with ourselves, accepting and celebrating who we really are. She also sang Born This Way, and, as far as I know, this is the first performance of Born This Way since the Reimagined EP came out in July. In this EP, Orville Peck did his cover of the Country Road Version of the same song, and, in a move who was praised by many (fans and critics alike) and even gained some little attention on the media, changed some lyrics who were considerable dated and/or offensive to better fit today’s standards and use of expressions with people. After this, some folk started speculating what Gaga would do from there, would she still sing the same lyrics or adopt Orville’s version (or even do her own new version)? So, today happened, and I have to say that I was surprised that Gaga choose to not make any changes in the song or even talk about it. And I mean, it’s her song, it’s her choice, I don’t think that she should be forced in any way to change it, but, after constantly showing that she knows what’s she’s saying when the subject is LGBTQIAP+ issues, and showing how she really does her research and discuss with others on matters like mental health, racism in America, white supremacy, the Covid Pandemic and other things, it kind of surprises me how she seems to not be aware of the problematics of the song. João Silvério Trevisan wrote an amazing book about the history of LGBTQIAP+ people in Brazil, and more than 30 years after release, on a new revision of the book, he wrote an introduction that talked, among other things, on how he choose to keep the masculine pronoun when referring to travestis (a trans female identity that has it’s peculiarities on Latin America); today only bigoted people (or people who really don’t know better) refer to a travesti as a male, but he defends that by keeping those pronouns on the book, it highlights how trans issues (and LGBTQIAP+ issues in general) have evolved over the 30 years since the book had been first published. I think Born This Way could fit the same category, Born This Way did what no other song did (so explicitly) for LGBTQIAP+ rights at the time, and of course, if she changed the lyrics it would keep it still fresh and aligned with how we view the world today, but the way it is, it still shows some problems and issues we had in the past on how to treat people, and that even a person who’s really cares about a topic can get it wrong sometime. I think that the biggest thing for me, is that I would love for Gaga to talk about this issue, I would love to hear her say what made her change her mind on the lyrics, or even defend her point of view on why she doesn’t want / feels the need to change it. It would show that she knows what’s going on and care about those issues and the legacy/message of her art (what are things that she really shows she does). But yeah, what are your thoughts on the matter? Should she change it? Should she keep that way? Do you think she even cares or should care? Also, do you think there’s any chance that this can become a problem on the future where those lyrics sparkle some real controversy (not a few people on a forum discussing, but a big controversy with people calling her a bigot and racist or some stupid thing because of lyrics she made 10 years ago)? Sorry if the post is too long and/or confusing, it’s my first discussion thread in here (I think) and English is not my first language. Also, I know Gaga never had any ill objective while choosing the words she choose on Born This Way, I'm not trying to attack her, it's just something that really caught my interest today. I don't know how to write in english

I guess she’s just trying not to get attacked by the internet just like when she had to stop BTW to note that she doesn’t know if God is actually a man. I think she knows the majority of her fans never had a problem with it and still don’t.
Gagaloo911 12,959
Eh. It's not really that big of a deal and not problematic the way it is. Unless you choose to go out of your way to be offended over any little thing, it's Lady f*cking Gaga for crying out loud! She put her entire career at risk when she was at her highest peak commercially to support and fight for us, like wtf Not to mention everything else she's done for the LGBTQ community and continues to do, are you really going to get all worked up over the ending of a word or a lyric when she's proven through her ACTIONS where she stands?? I feel like shes trying to cater to the Twitter mob and hardcore SJWs and trying to be as inoffensive as possible and it seems forced to me tbh. LeJudas 6,490
This big a$$ paragraph for what? Adding an X to an already neutral term (Latin) (Latino,Latina,or simply Latin for neither) like ... C'mon born this way is the most acceptive/inclusive song in history [probably] to ever be as iconic as it is And before y'all say anything no that doesn't mean I'm against anything

SevenWonder 3,917
It's the most inclusive song ever written. Like, how about quit trying to make everything current and up to today's standards and simply enjoy the song and how revolutionary it was when it came out. If we rewrite everything, how will know how much we've grown and changed?
