I find it weird how she released an album titled Pure Heroin at 16 but but criticized Lana for promoting wrong the stuff during the Born To Die era. I get that Pure Heroin is not meant to be taken literally, has layers of irony and metaphor, but she still introduced this title in front of her young fans (similar arguments can be used to defend Lana's lyrics from around that time)... Now that it comes out she used alcohol during its making, is pretty concerning considering that she was underaged.

She wasn't that much underage though for new Zealand, just 2 years. It's like a 19 year old drinking in the USA which isn't uncommon. ALSO heroine is a "female hero," it's on the audience if they mix that up with the opioid :laughga:

I don't remember what she criticized Lana for but now Im curious. Was it drug use or sum different?

2 years underage is still underage. But it doesn't really matter, because is concerning if anybody of any age is using drugs, because that is usually coupled with addiction. If a teenager or young adult is drinking more than  occasionally, that is a sign of a mental or emotional trouble. I am obviously not judging her, but pointing out that any addiction or drug usage is caused by emotional needs that aren't being fullfilled. What drugs or alcohol do is they numb you temporarily (which can be helpful at times), but they don't fix your mental state.

Secondly, Pure Heroine is a play on 'Pure Heroin'. Even if that is not really the word in the title, she chose it due to the similarity and that is still putting the word out there. To answer your question, I remember she criticized her aesthetic during Born To Die era. They had a mini beef in the early 2010s, Lana's dad even liked a post criticising Lorde back, if I remember correctly.

Lorde seems to really have her head on her shoulders, she's never seemed like addiction is ruining her life or her intellect or capacity to create etc...SA is a problem when it creates distress and impairs your functioning in social, professional, physical health areas etc... I don't think that's Lorde. But what do I know of her personally lol. I understand your concerns though. She was young.

and yeah I remember a mild beef... I thought that f*cked my way up to the top was rumored to be Bout Lorde, but idk if that's confirmedt

I don't think that addictive behaviour can be healthy. Sure, addictions come in various forms, some are more intense than the others, some include addiction to multiple substances at once but if someone feels the need to actively alter their mind with something, is a sign that something is not right and needs to be fullfilled. If someone goes out of their way to drink, use drugs etc shows that they need something that cannot get on their own. Also, is generally true that a person can appear healthy or normal-headed, but still struggle inside.

You're coming off as super straight edge which is fine, but not everybody agrees with you and clinically, addiction is only diagnosrd when it's creating harm. That's not the case for all- some people can use drugs recreationally. Alcohol and weed are normalized in culture because both can be used responsibly without developing addiction. I think Lorde's doing just fine lol she seems happier than she's been since entering the public eye too.

Some people use drugs to unwind, to relax, to socialize, to be creative and so on and it doesn't mean we need to assume they have significant mental issues underlying.

I think there's a line between alcohol, marijuana and other drugs. Mdma is pushing it, but of course some drugs are irredeemably harmful like opioids due to the increases addiction likelihood

But anyway we can agree to disagree that Lorde has problems lol

If a person feels the need to use mind altering substances, it shows that they are not self-sufficient and need additional aid to feel good. This is not being healthy. Obviously nobody should be judged for using drugs, people need guidance and empathy.

Alcohol, cigarettes, drugs do create harm on the long term and short term if are used more than ocasionally. Alcohol destroys the liver, smoking increases the likelihood for cancer and other drugs are dangerous as well (marijuana even increases the likehood for developing schizophrenia, and I have direct experience of this). Nobody that smokes weed 4 days a week, nobody that drinks more than on special occassions and nobody that uses MDMA or heroin is healthy mentally.

Also to be clear, addiction can also include more than substances (sex, masturbation, even shopping can be seen as addictions).

Bolkins

Music has always been pretty synonymous with drug use, it’s not exactly shocking that Lorde partakes I’m sure most musicians do.

Not the bore worms!
