Radio needs to be reformed

Better Day

I was listening to a Glasgow based radio station a couple of weeks ago and they played Bad Romance. This is how it well: Verse, Chorus, post chorus, bridge, pre final chorus, half of the first part of the chorus. It was heavily butchered and made me start to think - why do radios insist on butchering songs?

Radio is just out of control. They are far too much talking (mostly rubbish), very little music and too many ads. Radio needs to become more like Apple Music Radio stations - all about the music and very little talking. Radio edits of songs just need to be banned.

To be fair do people even listen to the radio anymore? It’s been years since I chose to actually do it lol. Filled with unnecessary small talk and ads

I agree with you that radio is rubbish (and has been for a long time). But if you want it to be like Apple Music, you can just listen to Apple Music. Radio just has to distinguish itself from streaming somehow so that’s why they have the news/comments and whatnot.

The radio should focus on music. Most radio station are all about giving away money and silly contests. Radio need to start competing with the streaming service in order to not be left behind. The BBC radio stations is the only one doing something similar to AM with BBC Sounds.

Economy

U guys dont need to criticize adds so much. It needs to get payed for somehow. Apple music and spotify has subscription fees or their own adds to help. Commercials is what radios have...

Also from my understanding theres royalties that have to be payed for spins if im not mistaken. They add talk because without it, its too expensive for most stations to survive

I wont defend the horrible remix butchers they do but if they wanna f*ck it up to their listners its their choice. We dont have to listen to the stations, its not like alternatives arent available at our disposal.

I never understood complaining about an entertainment format and if others get entertained by it when literally no one is forcing u to listen to it and theres easy alternatives to it (in this case streaming where u can access literally anything u want.

Too much complaining over nothing if u ask me. Its not that serious

I wasn’t complaining, I just said that radio has been useless for me. I’m not the one saying it needs to be changed  since I use alternatives. Not sure why you quoted me :messga:

As a marketer, I do understand the needs for ads. Radio was invented to celebrate music and keep people updated. Tbh, if I wanted to listen to the radio - I don’t care if Barbara from Greenock has won £100. I just want to feel good and listen to musicThis thread is not complaining. Just merely commenting on the need for radios to compete with the streaming services and get people back listening to the radio. I made this thread to hear people’s views on the state of the radio industry.

Aren’t most songs on the radio shortened? Like on older single CDs there was mostly a shorter “Radio Edit”. Knowing the original songs it sounds butchered but radio is for the GP and they want to play many songs in a period of time. You can play 3 songs in 10 minutes with  a duration of about 3 minutes but only 2 with a duration of 5 minutes…

+ I think Radio Edits have a promo use like, people who dig songs on the radio might wanna have a longer version and are most likely to buy the record

The Fame

I personally don't like the insane level of censorship on radio. Censoring words like 'hoe' and 'damn', like come on. For God sake there are people getting murdered daily, gun violence in children's schools, national suicide and mental health crisis' etc. It is so juvenile thinking people can't hear these VERY basic words I would barely consider swears when the world around us is what it is.

radio Is still very popular. not so much in the car, but in public settings. when people hear those catchy ear worm songs as background noise in stores, it really Gains traction

Listening to the radio is pointless nowadays ,especially for me, 90% of Gaga’s music and the rest of the music I listen to ,will never be played on any respectable radio station:trollga:
