“good 4 u,” ( Paramore's “Misery Business”)
earned at least $2.4 million in global publishing royalties.
Paramore's Hayley Williams and Joshua Farro (50%) share about $1.2 million in royalties so far for “good 4 u,” the same amount also shared by co-writer/producer Daniel Nigro and Olivia Rodrigo.
Although the addition of Williams and Farro was retroactive, sources say the Paramore team had been in touch with Rodrigo's about the single prior to its release.

“deja vu,” (reminiscence of Taylor Swift's “Cruel Summer” )
earned at least $1.3 million in worldwide publishing royalties ($1.26 million of which was made in the U.S.)
Taylor’s writing team was retroactively granted 50% of the songwriting credit for the single. Swift has 25%, Antonoff has 20%, and Clark has 5% for the interpolation of their work on “Cruel Summer." This totals out to be at least $325,678 in global publishing royalties for Swift, $260,542 for Antonoff, and $65,135 for Clark.

 “1 step forward, 3 steps back” (Taylor Swift's “New Year's Day” )
earned more than $258,379 in publishing royalties.
The song is one of the few from SOUR solely written by Rodrigo.
But after sharing those credits, Olivia Rodrigo holds 33.34% composition ownership, while Swift also holds 33.34% and Antonoff holds 33.32%. So far, each have earned about $86,000 from the song's publishing.

Combined, that adds up to more than $2 million in publishing royalties given up by Olivia Rodrigo and Daniel Nigro.

Fans have also noted similarities between the guitar riff on Olivia's "Brutal" and Elvis Costello's 1978 hit "Pump It Up," but Elvis Costello tweeted in response, "this is fine by me. It's how rock & roll works" and will not be seeking writing credit.

this is the thing with olivia... her music's good and she's a great lyricist but realistically, she's not bringing anything new or remotely original to the table. that's my one issue. she'd be amazing if she started branching out (which i'm sure she will) but sour just feels like a tribute album.

Ouch, while I do feel the similarities are not a “copy and paste” effort, perhaps on her next album they should make sure that sonically it’s attempting to sound unique. There are a lot of sonic influences on SOUR but then again, I think that’s what people love about the record. When was the last time we had a female pop rock song top the charts, to me I think it was Pink’s So What? So it was very refreshing to see good 4 u do its thing.

I can see Olivia avoiding this in the future, you have to keep in mind it's her debut album so she'll probably learn along the way

She has plenty of time to rake in all the cash

I don't really feel like the similarities were enough to lose 50% of royalties but thats just me.

I hope she doesn't let herself be pushed around too much. I'm all for giving credit where it's due but all of this is too much. It's not like she copied Cruel Summer but just used one small part of it. Deja Vu sounds nothing like it in the end.

But she still won and will continue to win so long-term it's ok methinks :vegas: it's like how Ariana made like no royalties from 7 rings and yet that song perhaps defines her peak at this point

Most of the US music is made out of samples anyway lol, she's not the only one so don't picture her as the least original or "bringing something new", because I can tear down all your faves so easily one by one just by going to WhoSampled.com :huntyga:

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Does anyone know how it breaks down? I’ve always been interested in that. Good 4 u has 800 million streams on Spotify. I thought Spotify paid $0.006 per stream… that would be $4.8 million not counting streams from Apple Music and the others. Does some of that go to record label and then the rest to the songwriters?

Also are streaming numbers from Apple Music published?

Giving up 50% seems obscene to me, and I bet you this is why Olivia is talking up Gaga in interviews now and not Taylor (like she used to) lol.

Olivia is so charitable she could have said she was inspired by the songs she heard.

This is what she did.
Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff and Clark have been given co-writer credits on Olivia Rodrigo's song "Deja Vu" after Olivia Rodrigo spoke about how influential Tay's "Cruel Summer" bridge was on the song.

You guys do realise this been going on for years right? Olivia ain't the only one to be "inspired".

Or even recent 7 rings/mine
