I mean pop music isn’t the only genre with punchy choruses. These songs build up momentum and have like no chorus at all. It’s odd.

I’m sure “odd” is exactly what they were going for!

WELP, I hate to say this but I’m sadly disappointed. :noparty:

Upon my first listen, out of the 13 tracks I’ve only liked a total of 3 which are; “The Tradition”, “1121” and “honey”, but with that being said it took me quite a bit to actually get into those 3. Sigh. Oh well. Maybe it takes a few listens to actually get into but as of now this album in general is a hard skip for me, which bothers me because I was really looking forward to this. :noparty:

The album was a grower for me! I've been playing it all day and initially I felt meh because I was expecting more NIN deep industrial, but it's easily one of the best albums of the year and one of the best female albums of the last 5-10. The production is EVERYTHING.

I grew up with NIN and Trent Reznor so this album is like crack to me. It's still pop but it's very understated industrial mixed with r&b, rock, folk, etc. LOVE IT

Anyone know if the film will be on streaming at any point? I really want to see these songs visually!

EDIT: IM NOT A WOMAN, IM A GOD and BELLS IN SANTA FE  but honestly every song is amazing. Her Vocalssssss

i disagree?

the choruses for Easier Than Lying, You Asked for This, Honey, I am not a woman Im a God are pretty big and catchy for non-pop songs.

Im listening rn (not a Halsey fan but this project seemed interesting) and idk how to feel rreally. It started off REALLY well but it starting going downhill after Easier than Lying imo. The first three songs have an epic vibe to them, very dramatic and well done. The rest so far hasn't been on the same level I feel idk. Also her vocals are the weakest part of the album, and on some songs the production really overshadows the vocals (there was one song in particular that did that, I think You asked for this?) which I don't like. So far it's  a cool project but I'm not overly impressed.

Soft, soothing, and succulent

Just finished it. The last 3 songs are also very good, I love The Lighthouse. I guess it's just the middle part of the album that wasn't as good as the first and last 3 songs.

Also i still wanna know how she found the title of the closing track :air:

It’s an arabic phrase that means something like “bury me first” its basically an expression that means you want to die before your partner because you can’t imagine being alive without them

It’s a hauntingly sweet thing to say, which is what I think makes it such a fitting end to the project!

This is coming from someone who actually actively disliked most of Halsey's discography, this is a whole serve, she's VERY lucky to have collaborated with Trent and Atticus on this. There's still moments where I wish she pushed herself more vocally but the album is a total vibe and I'm happy for her that is came together, it's the first time I've taken her seriously as an artist tbh.

Girl is a Gun had me so shook I didn't know what to do with myself.

The melody in The Lighthouse I could legit see imagine legendary metal band covering, sounds like an instant classic.

It's all great really. Imagine Trent and Atticus working with Gaga one day when she finally caves and goes for rock/experimental influences again 😭

yeah they are not Nightmare or Experiment on Me like that

I prefer this energy she's gone for on this album, I also think the choruses or hooks are pretty easy to pick out in the tracks? 🤷‍♂️ It's still a very poppy album for sure.

And I'm so glad these songs weren't like Nightmare, I found that song so try-hard same with Experiment on Me (even though I would have liked more vocals like that on this album)

I’m finally listening to it and only on the second song but I’m loving the sound, it’s very cinematic and tense :legend:

Update I just finished it and wow it’s EXCELLENT. My favorites after first listen are The Tradition, Easier Than Lying, You Asked for This, I am not a woman I’m a god, and Ya’auburnee. I get such a nostalgic feeling from a lot of the songs and I’ll definitely be listening to it a lot more :rockstar:

I think this is her best album since her debut. Then again, I've not listened to her debut in so long that I've forgotten what more than a handful of tracks sound like so this one might actually be better. I love the concept which wasn't easy to execute. Making an album about being a woman was always something I envisaged would be very difficult to do as I always imagined it would be easy to write in a book but getting such a political issue into song would be difficult to make entertaining. But she achieves it. I feel this is some of her best songwriting to date and she's truly come into her own. At worst, a few of the tracks are a bit under-par but there's nothing terrible and almost everything is above average. My ultimate favourites are Girl is a Gun, You Asked For This, Whispers and The Lighthouse. That last one is truly one of her best ever works, this is Grammy-worthy songwriting. It's absolutely shocking that she's never won an award or been nominated for her solo work (her only nominations are a co-nomination for her feature on JB's Purpose album and her feature on Closer) which is insane considering she's written some really amazing work. I hope this is the one that causes a breakthrough. It may well be her best reviewed album or thereabouts so I hope it'll lead to something.

This is an amazing project. The movie really brought some songs to life for me. It's a masterpiece.
