Rihanna’s Fenty brand sued for millions over song

Rihanna’s brand Fenty is being sued by a musician who claims the company played a version of their song featuring sacred Islamic proverbs at a fashion show which led to them receiving death threats.

The artist is suing Rihanna’s brand for more than $10million in damages.

The artist, who's filed the suit as Jane Doe to protect her identity claims Rihanna contacted them about using their tune in a Savage X Fenty show last autumn.

They say the wrong version of the song was used at the event, with the track including a sample of the proverbs being chanted. 
The artist received death threats after the show.

The legal documents state that the artist made it clear to Fenty reps one version of the song had the religious verses and one did not, and she warned them not to use the Islamic proverbs.

Rihanna apologised publicly after the incident but the artist claims she went into hiding.

I'm so confused. The artist is filing the suit as Jane Doe, but wouldn't everyone know who they are anyway, since the song was used?

Why is the artist receiving death threats specifically for the use of the song in the show? There's a version of a song with these religious proverbs anyway, why wouldn't the artist have received death threats regarding this outside of its use in the show?

Are they filing the suit now and why not back then?

Rihanna's team is definitely in the wrong for not having respected the contract though.

i get that but it’s inarguably more morally revolting threatening someone‘s life because of the usage of words some deem sacred

sue someone for using the wrong song if you want to. but bringing those fanatics into the equation the artist has to admit it helps nothing against those fantasizing about killing you. i would even argue the message you’re sending is some sort of second hand justification

I mean technically they’d be counted as different songs, right? Which would mean fenty didn’t have the right to use it. It comes down to that and whether or not they are legally considered separate things, I would think

U can sue for that mistake (although it appears to be a genuine mistake and i think an entire $10M is petty and a little excessive, no way damages financial or emotional amount to that much)

 

I do think its fair to demand an apology for the mistake if its a sensitive issue to u

The artist can't be taken seriously. There's no integrity behind her decision. Come on, 10 million, it's all about money and nothing else.
