Mariah is a songwriter first and foremost. Forget the singing. Whitney can have that whatever. They both respect each other. 
 

Maybe you mean a popular song, yes she hasn’t had that in a while but her last album was a creative peak for her. The sophistication and restraint far outstrips her 2000s outputs. Her enduring popularity is because she wrote songs that are timeless and appeals to a diverse demographic. Not everybody can do that. I’d argue that she is still undervalued as an artist. Please listen to more than her hits and if you did and still didn’t like it then god bless you.
 

I don’t like bringing politics, but if Mariah Carey was a man she would literally be equated to Michael Jackson or The Beatles. It is sad that people reduce her to mere diva. 
 

Who else wrote 18 BB100 #1 singles, Christmas classic included? That while having five octaves.

how dare you come for Mariah. She has had many hits this decade, maybe if you listened to the radio you'd know that. Mariah popularised many vocal techniques, including the whistle tone. She is a singing legend and will always be. Nobody makes hits like that anymore. She has collaborated with many of musics greatest such as Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross and Boyz II Men. I don't see anybody doing those kind of collaborations anymore. Mariah has made herself a name in the industry and her legacy will live on forever.

I like Mariah. I think behind the diva act she puts on she's a decent person and as I said she's written some great classic songs.
