They never start from scratch either, they have the original code base & don't even have to re-write it, they can just push it through an emulator. These older games can run on toasters at this point.

Yeah but they're using Unreal Engine and updating the graphics, so they're programming it from scratch.

I tried playing the old ones but I just can’t get past the graphics  I just stick to GTA V

But scratch is kinda ambiguous. They have a ton of stuff to work with, not to mention they definitely have a version of the game in c++ by now. Updating assets to work with Unreal isn't nothing, but it's not really "from scratch". I mean they have the whole map, they just have to add to it.

It's very much for nostalgia, but GTA 3 and Vice City are pretty good for playing on phones.

I'm assuming they'll have to update textures, models, and effects as well. It's not as easy as porting the original games to mobile phones but it isn't as hard as creating a completely new game.

I would like it to be true but I don’t believe it until R* announces it
