Sorry I’m not going to accept that it’s acceptable or normal to tell your child they sound bad or are bad at something, how are they going to go forth and try anything else with that kind of support system? I hate that you feel this way and if it’s because someone treated you this way, then that’s even worse.

Young people need support or they become husks who are emotionally broken adults.

I mean... You can support your kids and also let them know that singing is not their strength. But have fun dragging your tone deaf delusional kid to an X factor audition to be mocked. Yeeesh!

I'm actually not. We just disagree. No need to exaggerate.

She literally raised him. What are you talking about?

That's her job, not something to tit for tat with

But that's literally what you're saying... That telling a kid that they're not good at something is abusive and you'd rather encourage them to go for it. That's OK in a pollyanna world. This is real life. But there's somethings both you and I will never be good at and we might as well know it. Like is this why you chose your username.. That you think you're good at everything? We're not all Lady Gaga :shadow:

Yeah, she raised him. So she did support him. Ppl acting like she did nothing. Quentin just needs to buy his ma a house and stop whining 🙄

Continue to defend your troubled upbringing if you wish, or heal. I can’t make you do anything or change your mind.

My username is actually a song title by Allie X. One of my favorite songs. It’s about accepting that you just don’t know whether or not you are a good person, yet striving to be good anyways. It’s also about wanting to make the people who supported you in your hardships proud.

Wet Fire

All of guys lol are so blind to the fact that most probably his mother was from a cultural background where she had no skill to know whether her son is good at writing and she might have preferred a safe career choice because of her own life experiences. Relationships aren't business transactions where nobody owes nothing to anyone else. If you're a good kid, you'd try to understand why your parents did what they did and maybe try to undo that conditioning? :selena:

This is not to take sides in the Tarantino vs mother debate. We don't know her story. And I'm not confident whether I should trust this man's words.

Magic Mike

he's a genius but this comes a bit surprising to me as he created some really great feminist films (Death Proof for instance);

I sometimes guess the force that drives your ambitions is negative ("I'll show her that I can and she'll then see!")

My childhood was pretty good tbh, in spite of some tough challenges that were out of my and my parents hands. But thanks.

Then you probably understand the importance of cultivating a child’s interests and inclinations

Even if you don’t think it’s good, it doesn’t give you a right to take that passion away. I know that if I didn’t have adults telling me that I was doing a good job with my drawings or whatever, I wouldn’t have continued being interested in it.

Even if you don’t mean it, it is important to tell kids they’re doing good when they are honestly trying.

Eh, to a certain point. You can either sing or you can't.
