Apparently they don't do too well in hot and humid climates with lots of rain, as they are prone to root rot and prefer mediterranean climates, but some people plant them in Florida anyway.

That being said there are also hybrids with that species as a parent and other tropical palms to make the resulting new plants more tolerant of humidity/rain and they look quite similar, but lemme not go further with my plant nerd talk

We might have the hybrids here  the ones I'm thinking of are definitely not palm trees, they're shorter and stocky like that picture. My neighbor has some really short ones growing in her front yard and they produce some kind of ugly fruit that I mistook for ugly pineapples

Fun fact: we brought them over to Portugal from Japan centuries ago, and opposite to many others, they give fruit during the winter.

I love dióspiros (persimmons) though.

Have u ever had nesperas from a tree tho? I feel like they are the kind of fruit that will taste like plastic when picked green and sold at the store 

 

Which reminds me of how sh*t diospirosnare here in canada. They are literally hard and u can cut them like an apple and im like wtf

 

Either its a different breed of them or when they are picked green it does that but i was just like thats not right

I've only ever had nêsperas from the tree, they're literally everywhere here lol

There's 2 kinds of diospiros, one of them is hard and the insides are a bit lighter, maybe that's the ones they have there. But I agree, the soft gummy ones are the best.

Ok yes thats the ones then. They are lighter and harder. I wasnt sure if it was a different type or if they simply were like that when picked green

 

Either way i like the ones my grandparents had in portugal with their tree. It was the soft very red ones. Sometimes if even eat it with a spoon 😗
