That said, it seems to me like a label/AR was shopping it around hardcore and it changed hands a lot. Ari/Nicki were probably happy to feature but not have it as a song on their albums. Yet ari has become so synonymous with it because she emerged as the “vocal queen” at the song’s peak. 

I feel like “Telephone”‘s story was likely similar. Wasn’t it originally written for Britney?

 

edit: only to say I really do love the song. I just feel like it was one of those “industry” songs that none of the women that ended up on it actually connect to it artistically. Jessie even; she just promotes it because it’s her biggest hit.

Jessie J is something she had some vocals when she was injured during the VMA's and nailed it.
