NFRatwell 23,290
I was thinking about Gaga’s career and how it can be split into phases… her past 3 albums (Phase 3, which includes L4S) have sort of been a much more acclaimed version of Phase 2 (ARTPOP, CTC, Joanne) though out of order. I was wondering how she can start her next phase with a bang, and I thought what’s better than her making her “debut” in rock albums. This project would contain two short albums which would be sort of like the “Lady” and “Gaga” idea many have had. One hard rock / metal album (think anywhere from ACDC to Iron Maiden), and one soft rock album (think Dreams by Fleetwood Mac, Thank You For Being A Friend). What do you think about this idea? Would you be here for it
Brainiac 10,616
I am SO ready for her to make a rock album. It's the next logical step for her, musically, in my opinion.

Suspiria 10,683
Even though I'm not into rock, I'd definitely be here for a theatrical prog rock or heavy metal type era aesthetically. I really really don't want her to try any sort of "indie" or soft rock type era though. Anything where she presents herself as a ~girl next door~ type just seems forced because she is the furthest thing from it.

I mean what would you consider Always Remember Us This Way, which is currently one of her most successful recent songs? I think she could definitely pull off an album like that. Maybe my examples weren’t the best, imagine her doing a song like:

Even though I hate that genre she is undeniably good at it. I was talking more about the "persona" I imagine she would adopt for such an era. With ASIB it was fine because of course it was a movie. But if she were to adopt that Joanne type persona again I would have to unstan, I just found it so cringe when she pretended that 'going back to her roots' and being more 'authentic' meant becoming some salt-of-the-earth, middle-America regular girl who plays guitar, when she's an Italian American go-go dancer art school student born and raised in NYC who never even played guitar until that album. Sorry, this is so off topic lmao. I just can't help myself from dragging the Joanne era

I just can't help myself from dragging the Joanne era I sort of see where you’re getting at, but we all know at her core when she’s all alone she’s a piano ballad writer (Brown Eyes, Speechless, Yoü and I). I think if she played it like that it would’ve felt more authentic. I do agree about Joanne feeling inauthentic, but I think she can return to more acoustic music without playing that whole country middle of America character. Yes you're right, as much as I hate to admit it, her heart has always been with simple pop rock since day 1. If I'm not mistaken, all of her solo-written songs have been those sort of ballads.
