We have to be ready emotionally for critics to tank the **** out of the score. We do. It’s not gonna take her out of awards season but we have to embrace the fact that the movie is polarizing and accept it. 
 

and everyone in USA (and Canada) needs to try and see it on opening weekend. A good BO number spread WoM

Btw, the sex scene is indeed amazing not just because it was a great scene, but because of how the scene fits with the pacing of the movie. I fully lost it 

The more I think about the movie the more I wanna see it again. Yeah it has its problems, mainly the length and dips in energy, but here’s the good news: Gaga was on another level. I was in the minority of thinking Gaga’s acting was a bit wooden in ASIB (she did an amazing job for a first turn, but it did feel like her first), but this was completely beyond. I have no doubt that she’s an incredible actress and I want her to keep going with it. 
 

To those asking why the critics are split, I totally understand it. It has qualities that are neither good or bad, but they make an impression to the point where opinions will swing one way or another. Jared Leto is overacting to the point of it feeling like a different movie, and my partner loved it but I found it distracting. Adam’s character is very muted in comparison so the scenes that were Maurizio heavy definitely felt like an energy shift. The movie takes its time so folks with shorter attention spans (like me) wanted it to move along a bit faster, but understandably, a lot of critics liked the slower pacing.

you're not the only one, when I saw ASIB (but also AHS) I also said to myself "she's good, but she's a bit wooden", and when I saw the trailer for HoG I thought "she had to play the role of an Italian to learn how to loosen her joints a bit" )

I think most of the negativity on here is just people who care and who are on high alert for bad reactions. My impression of what I've read so far is that the official reviews will be significantly more positive than negative, that ordinary cinemagoers will love the movie, and that Gaga has a serious chance of winning an Oscar. All to play for. Looking forward to actually seeing the thing.

One thing about Little Monstrosities is that they'll turn something bad into worse. Be prepared for them "dragging" critics on twitter on Monday, so all the narrative of Gaga being great will be lost in their pursuit of likes and RTs.

Can I offer a different perspective on this ? And by the way I am not someone who thinks she can do no wrong. I think she's a living genius, but perfect ? No.

So yeah, I thought she was a bit wooden in AHS, but I thought the part was a bit wooden more than her. In ASIB, I didn't think she was wooden at all. It's like watching your sister on screen, you have an emotional investment. You want to see Ally Maine on the screen, but you keep seeing this other person that you care about, pretending to be Ally Maine. If it was an actress that you didn't know or care about at all, you might see it differently.

I feel this way, too. I don't think I'll ever be able to see LG "disappear" into a role because I am so intimately aware of every aspect of her personality haha.

I think I saw another poster say something similar with HoG... that they forgot she was LG for a minute, but then she'd laugh in a way that only LG can and they'd be reminded it's her again.

There's someone on goldderby forum who estimated HoG's RT score (based on ratings given by RT-approved critics on Letterboxd) and so far it's at 68%

IKR? I saw someone elsewhere meltdowning about The Oscar Guy's (youtube channel I guess) opinon, as well as some other youtuber I'd never heard of, and just SMH (felt like the London premiere livestreamer girl watching randoms posing the red carpet and going "who are these people?!)  At least meltdown about AO Scott or something, not youtubers. I could understand if they were Anthony Fantano level, but I don't think they are.

My thoughts about Kristen and the attitude towards her are valid and correct. And Gaga would be embarrassed at her fans for talking about her like this. She has been the victim of twisted headlines many times. You're just mad i disagree with you because a lot of long term posters are way more negative aboyt Gaga than I ever will be. Acknowledging that she won't win this year doesn't reflect badly on her. She has received great reviews and her achievement speaks for itself. Second movie ever and she's going toe to toe with Al Pacino. 

My intention is to get her very vocal fandom ready for that fact that she may not even be nominated in such a stacked year. I hope she will but it is not a guarantee. I just do not want fans call a her a flop or attacking other actresses if she doesn't make it in. We have already been spoiled in 2019. She has nothing to prove to anyone. She did what she had to do. 

 

But sure, keep shading Kristen Stewart as if that's going to change anything.
