Fanta 5,019
The general consensus seems to be the acting is great, and Gaga is a serious contender for a Best Actress nom, but the film itself is all over the place. Our worst fear, that the acting was bad, is at least gone. And it's not that the film is received badly, they're just saying it's not a serious Oscars contender. robboadam 2,012
Tbf I’m happy with that - strong, Oscar-worthy performances and a film that’s no Citizen Kane but is at least enjoyable. Seems it’ll be memorable either way.

Matt Neglia, who didn't like it that much, basically agreed with me that it's looking to be this year's BOMBSHELL/VICE - those films got a 65 and 68% on RT. GUCCI doesn't look to be panned, it's just a very soft/lukewarm reaction. Twitter: @ConnorBehrens/Instagram: @ConnorBehrens

Serious contender or not, mediocre movies have been nominated before and so have divisive movies so we have to keep the good spirits up. A good box office showing will be important for the movie to get deeper into conversation for the awards and ultimately critics are not the people who vote on behalf of The Academy for nominations so as long as they don't outright sink the movie or kill it's momentum once the full review embargo is up - there is potential This could go the way of one of two recent examples of divisive star-studded affairs: Vice - nominated in all major categories, including BP and acting roles but walking away empty handed OR Bombshell - euqally mixed reviews but praise for some of it's acting, 1-2 acting noms + some technical noms and potential win in one of said minor categories
Meat 18,962
Gaga and Jared will be nominated for an Oscar next year. Bookmark me
pedrohemg 7,802
Gaga can surely steal the momentum from Kristen. I hope the praising keeps coming.
thehanyo 4,251
Oscar nom is all we need bc that guarantees more Oscar-worthy roles will get offered to her. I say we won.
MOT 2,753
Yeah, so far these reviews seem to be in line with what most people on here predicted - movie being seen as non-disastrous and non- masterpiece, but with a more positive reaction to the performances, especially Gaga and Jared. I know there's at least one reviewer above who thinks Gaga is downright bad, but so what ? That's allowed.
Shav33l 1,241
This is honestly better than what I expected! Glad to see a certain someone's "review" being mostly proven wrong. I think it's gonna end up in the lower 70s with a few Oscar noms. Gaga and Jared seem like locks at this point from the reactions (but I don't wanna jinx it). I can't wait any longer to watch the movie, ahhh!! Red wine, cheap perfume and a filthy pout.

I could actually see this turning into a James Bond sort of situation (low 80s, when the social media buzz was very mixed)....but I suspect it will be high 60s-70s, as you said. I'm very much getting the vibe that it's sort of a "girls and gays" type of film so the reviews might depend on which critic from the L.A. Times, Variety, etc. ends up writing the review. David Ehlrich though writes like 90% of the reviews for Indiewire and sounds like he's going to give it a positive score. I've only seen a few pans of Gaga's performance (but that happens with nearly every actor)...hell even Kristen received a few pans for Spencer...and most of it seems very positive. Also, one of the guys who panned Gaga (who monsters are harassing, unfortunately) doesn't even write reviews a lot anymore...so I doubt he'll be the one to review Gucci. Just really hope monsters don't end up getting Gaga dragged by proxy... Do you think if Gucci makes bank that it will increase Gaga's chances? I know the box office usually doesn't have much of an impact, especially with art house films, but with more commercial fair/big films it sometimes can...for example a lot of people are saying the fact that the Last Duel flopped so hard is why Jodie basically has no shot at getting in the race. Clearly there is passion and excitement and I hope those translate to actual reviews, and that they're strong enough to pull in even those with middling first impressions. Yeah, I think if it does good box office-wise, that will give it more legs to go on in an extended Oscar season. That will also ensure it's top of mind of every voter up until next year, especially if it gets great audience reception. Whether they vote for it or not of course will depend on other things, but at least you make sure that it will get considered. It can only do it good. Dangerous if it tanks though because that can take over as the film's main narrative like what happened with TLD.

Dangerous if it tanks though because that can take over as the film's main narrative like what happened with TLD. Anne Thompson had an interesting take. She didn't care for the film and believes critics won't embrace it, but that it's a crowd pleaser. She also mentioned that SAG members liked Gaga and Jared at SAG screenings. She thinks, however, that Jared and Gaga could have benefited from the Golden Globes (I'm very confused, as I thought they weren't canceled after all)...but that they could "squeak in" to SAG and Oscars even without the Globes. And she seems a bit down on Gaga and Jared's performance (she's not openly criticizing it, but I get the vibe she feels they chewed too much scenery in comparison to Adam). Anyway, SAG loves Jared. I mean they gave him a nomination for The Little Things when most critics dragged the film and his performance...and Gucci sounds like it will have a better response than that film. So if Anne feels like SAG will look at Gaga as they look at Jared...that's a good sign. *Anne can be wrong (and in this case, sort of already is as some of the critics are embracing the film) but she usually is fairly decent at predicting how this sort of thing goes. So the fact that she brought up SAG having a good reaction is very interesting.
