An ocelot kitten spotted in Texas this spring brought hope for this endangered species, but they desperately need their habitat protected.

Now, thanks to conservation efforts, an additional 4,800 acres have been added to the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge, which provides a critical home for a small population of these rare cats.

This additional habitat will help safeguard and connect critical migration corridors for endangered ocelots and other coastal wildlife.

These additional refuge acres will also provide outdoor recreation opportunities, support local economies, and provide resiliency to climate change impacts and hazardous events such as hurricanes or coastal storms.

There's ocelots in the US? Neat.

Was also pleasantly surprised to find out the US gets the occasional jaguar across the border.

Do you feel him sir?

Their range seems to extend into southern US (though they are probably pretty uncommon there).
