It has a more personal, raw, and dark feels to it that feels more suited as a lead single rather than a song about heartbreak. I still love Perfect Illusion as a song, though. I know the song is supposed to build, but I think the opening is a bit lame. And not the only song on Joanne I'd have that issue with, the title track also.
