The 'United' States isn't really united or one race either. What holds it together is the feeling that separating would leave us vulnerable and weak with the threat from foreign hostiles. Europe is has been split into regions far longer than the U.S. has even existed and to get every country to submit to unified government isn't going fly. We'd slay the world if we were one country, but what about the countries that want to join the EU Union? I also don't think the more powerful countries of the EU would be keen to lose a lot of their power to form one country. This.
