A Fried Egg

My friends and family went from mega homophobic to being awesome allies. People can change. Not everything is so black and white. If we dig up everyone’s past comments, I’m sure we can find something to cancel ourselves with.

This aspect of human nature is probably why it takes so long to end wars. :billie:

Tbh. I dont know why some ppl are so determined to shut ppl forever once someone makes a mistake. Most of those ppl have no doubt done or said things too that if they were celebs and ppl found out they too would be "cancelled"

please, before the vaccines almost everyone was trash talking them and being skeptical af. she's hardly a minority here. she was only stupid enough to tweet her opinion, as we can see that can be used against you.

the homophobic one is super ugly, let's hope she's changed now. and isn't she bi herself? maybe this is her internalized homophobia speaking and her not being educated enough on the issue and things like that. let's not pretend that 2011 was the same world as the one we live in rn. let's not forget that being homophobic was lowkey "trendy" or whatever back then and she probably thought she was being cool or edgy to write that. not excusing her actions one bit, but given how she apologized i don't see why this has to be brought up over and over again.

Ok. But I still think it's sketchy when celebrities feel the need to go on social media and post for the whole world to see how much they hate gay people (in this case) and then when they become big they suddenly don't hate them anymore.

But #BuyGoodDaysOnItunes I guess

At the same time, there was also no need to tweet stuff out like that in the first place. Like, people want to defend others by saying “it was from x number of years ago,” but the reality is, they also didn’t have to tweet it out in the first place. Like, who just goes on social media, tweets out ridiculous **** like that, and expects it to not kick them in the ass later on down the road?

ofc what she said was bad. no reason for her to tweet all that. but the reality is she did and she regrets it and she's apologised. she apologised before she became 'famous' tho. im not saying you should forgive her cuz she apologised, im saying that this is very old news like the apology itself was from like 6 years ago :air: people/fans have dealt with all this confronted her about it and moved on and bringing it up now is just unnecessary almost? but that's just my opinion.

bringing this dead and buried incident up again after literal years is giving twitter bringing up dumb gaga stuff like the tanning photoshoot every time there's an argument or something (in this case there isn't an argument at all lol just unprovoked)  :air: like this isn't necessarily at all? :laughga:

Is it me or do people forgive homophobic comments way faster than racist or misogynistic comments? Say something racist or misogynistic and you're cancelled. Say something homophobic and people say it's okay, it was from a different time period, that it's old news. Or am I crazy?

Well, I'm not saying that people can't change. Hell, I grew up (and still partly live) in a very conservative, religious family. When I was young, I was taught that being gay was wrong and immoral, and my family still believe that. Years later, I'm gay and I've obviously changed my mind about the LGBTQ+ community. People are capable of change, so I'm not denying that whatsoever.

I guess the issue I have is, she didn't even have to tweet this out in the first place. If this is what she genuinely thought, and she's changed, that's great! I applaud anyone who's able to change their ways and become more tolerate and accepting. I just don't see why people need to tweet out stuff like this though

Like, even long before "cancel culture," I was always taught to be careful about what you post online because it can come back and haunt you later on down the road. It's just kinda ridiculous that people willfully post these things online without thinking about the consequences.

You're not necessarily wrong. I've noticed throughout the years, negative comments about the LGBTQ+ community are always chopped up to be "opinions", but when it comes to comments about race or sex, it's untouchable.

I know people change and whatever but like... I've literally never said, posted, tweeted, etc something discriminatory of a group of people and I'm 30. It's so easy to just... not do it. Like right now. You reading this. You're not posting anything misogynistic/transphobic/racist/homophobic because you're doing something else. It's THAT easy! Keep up the good work!

You literally have to go out of your way to post something discriminatory and I don't think I can ever understand that in a person regardless of how long ago it was. They still did it. They have the mental capacity to think, execute action, and post but most importantly THINK whatever discriminatory BS

EXACTLY!

People changing their mindset about certain social issues and becoming more accepting is always a good thing. However, even if you did have intolerate ideologies, why post them online?? :selena: Y'all are asking for some bad karma

what i want to know is ............

how come people are so quick to defend other celebrities for their old problematic tweets, saying it's from a different time, they no longer feel that way, etc.

but when it's a black female celeb, it's over for her and even if she doesn't feel that way now, it doesn't change the fact that she tweeted it

just wondering .... :yennefer:

partly has to do with racism it doesn't matter where just look at azealia she seems like shes changed for the better yet people still just say shes still homophobic and im not defending those opinions at all but its the same problem here than there and that people dont believe they have actually changed, what SZA said was horrible but she apologized for it and i think she has changed, same with azealia shes in the process.

so my point is no matter who it is yall have to try and believe people can change, some examples yall have said like a homophobic family can become the best of allies, its the same thing here, so keep an open mind yall.

also stop being so racist yall, how hard is it to not be f*cking racist to someone cause of their skincolor istg :grr:

What the duck? I mean I half understand the reason black people were afraid of this vaccine last year. They were always the guinea pig for medical experiments in the past. So ok I might give her a pass on that, but the gay tweet is like WTF. Seriously WTF.

Born This Way

So a 10 year old homophobic tweet that she's apologized for and she made those vaccine tweets months before there was even a vaccine but not since?
