"Cruel Summer" writers have been given a credit on Olivia Rodrigo's Deja Vu

How do you know Taylor requested this? It is not said or even remotely talked about that in both of the articles linked. Also, Olivia has said that Deja Vu was born as a cover of Cruel Summer and that the chorus is practically the same chorus on both. Maybe this is just Olivia giving credit where its due, maybe she could not give credit to Taylor until now, not everything has to be a problem or a bad thing.

Because Taylor is very territorial and sensitive about ownership of her music. It would make sense that her team caught wind of that interview and took legal action, especially with all the comparisons between OR and TS.

Also, she never said it was "born as a cover" lmao she said the bridge was inspired by Taylor. The chorus could literally not be more different.

The article I read described it as being "handled behind the scenes" and compared it to similar situations like Katy's "Dark Horse" and Sam's "Stay with Me" where retroactive credit was given. If Olivia thought it was a deserved co-writer credit, she no doubt would have done so before releasing the album. Situations like this are almost always initiated by a songwriter requesting credit. And I assume Olivia acquiesced.

Why is it always Taylor the one who leads the conspiracies "behind the scenes" in every little thing she's involved in. Is it because she's intelligent or something? We literally have no evidence on what you're claiming, and I highly doubt Taylor would overstep like that, given she wouldn't have much to gain with that and it would be catastrophic for her public image.

Why do you think Olivia suddenly gave Taylor credit months after releasing the song then? It's not a conspiracy. It's very unlikely this happened unprompted. What would be any other reason? I like Taylor and defend her in most of her actions. All I said was if she made this request, it's an overreach. Claiming it's because "she's intelligent" is a totally baseless deflection.

Lol maybe because she's a fan and the song truly was inspired by Cruel Summer? The simplest possible reason is usually always the right one. You're literally criticizing Taylor for something we don't have any proof about and creating a whole argument around it.

I love it when people who have absolutely no way of knowing what happened assume what happened and believe so hard in it

So. She wrote the song. She released the song. The songs's been out for months. She didn't think it was a Taylor co-write when she put it out. But she just suddenly decided that now? What you are proposing is very unlikely. Most likely a songwriter on Cruel Summer, either Taylor or Jack or both, reached out and asked to privately arrange a share of publishing to avoid any litigation. That is the most plausible explanation.

I so agree - like saying Deja Vu was born as a cover of Cruel Summer! Crazy 😂

She should do more of that with other artists ‘cause every song on the album is a little too reminiscent of other already existing songs.

Right,

she should give Paramore some credit for Good 4 you, while she is at it

I defend Taylor a lot, but if she requested this, it's a major overreach and abuse of her relationship with Olivia (she knows she's a super fan). The bridges are not in any way identical. This just feels like stealing a cut of a big hit.

Where tf did you get that Taylor requested this??? Why are you literally starting sh*t for no reason? Have a seat.

What YOU are proposing is very unlikely. YOU are the only person talking about Taylor forcing Olivia to give her credit. Literally an issue that didn’t exist until you spoke it into existence.

Songwriters don't retroactively give away publishing rights of their hits unless prompted. I can't even think of a precedent for that. Anyone with knowledge of the industry, including Variety, has speculated this was a closed door deal between the songwriters. Neither party has publicly commented. I don't understand why people are so flabbergasted by the very logical suggestion that this had to be prompted by something. Publishing rights are worked out before an album is released and major labels pay attention to possible infringement. Typically, if a change is made to the publishing agreement, one of the parties had to make such a request.
