Sheeran wrote this song after his first management asked him to get rid of his red hair and ditch his rapping / production. I don’t care what y’all think about his latest stuff but you gotta agree this song is a bop

He wrote the earliest version of this song (which I believe was this same first verse and chorus) when he was 15 and everyone told him for years this song would never work, but he stuck with it. He still plays it at every show. It’s incredible to think something he wrote at age 15 made it to Glastonbury, 7 performances at Wembley Stadium and a world tour that sold 9 million tickets. I hope he never stops playing it!

These live performances are what made me a big fan of his. I liked his music well enough before that but the Brits performance is what made me think whoa... This guy is majorly talented 

Like I don't care how much you all hate and drag him for pathetic immature stan reasons but you can't convince me he's not incredible talented. The man did a whole stadium tour with just him on stage and it was amazing!

This is such a LIT throwback! And i forgot this song had a music video. This song always reminds me of Gaga's Paper Gangsta, in terms of the message.

Ed's songs, say what you want about them, were genuine back then. The A Team still makes me well up especially. This was back when he was about being real and not focused on selling millions worldwide. I never would've thought based on this stuff that he'd end up with songs like SOY and Bad Habits but I guess the draw of the wider market was just too much to resist for him. His rapping is surprisingly good, all things considered and he even gets the respect of rap acts for it, like when he collabed with some of them during his Collaborations Project albums. But he realises generic dancey songs and treacly ballads are where the big bucks are so he just likes to stick with that now and raps like this are almost completely a thing of the past. I certainly don't remember the "they say I'm up and coming like I'm f**king in an elevator" line the first time around but that was class right there!

That’s awesome! I’ve seen him twice (Multiply Tour and Divide Tour) but have always been super far back unfortunately. Still two of the best gigs I’ve ever been to!
