ABBA's most famous greatest hits compilation, ABBA Gold: Greatest Hits, has always been a massive favourite in the UK charts. First released on September 21st, 1992 and featuring the band's most definitive hits, like Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, The Winner Takes It All, Waterloo and more, it debuted at #1 at the time and has been a mainstay on the UK charts ever since. This week, it charts at #17, meaning its now hit a never before achieved record with a whopping 1000 weeks overall, making it the second bestselling album of all time in the UK charts (behind Queen's Greatest Hits), with over 5.61 million pure sales to date. There are also two other albums hot on its heels to join this elite club in the future: Bob Marley & The Wailers Legend (#20 this week) with 984 weeks and Queen's Greatest Hits (#13 this week) with 952 weeks.

After just under 29 years, this is incredible, especially for a band who broke up so long ago. In an age when greatest hits albums are a thing of the past for the most part due to streaming, this is incredible.

Bonkers

Fun fact:  at the time of Michael Jackson's cancelled 50 date London 02 Arena show, ABBA was the only other living act with the capability of selling out all 50 shows.

It's truly amazing how popular they still are, considering that it has been almost 40 years of their breakup.
