alsemanche 93,820 Posted June 5, 2021 Share Posted June 5, 2021 I love how stans decided that she's a charts artists and act surprised whenever she doesn't pull off heavy chart numbers I don't think she'd be doing the music she's doing right now if she was that concerned about getting high chart numbers because clearly songs like Your Power and Lost Cause aren't what's sticking in the top 10. But that doesn't take away from their quality (even if I think Lost Cause is my least favorite single from the album so far, Your Power is a great song). LastNight 5,935 Posted June 5, 2021 Share Posted June 5, 2021 I’m not a big follower of Billie’s, so from an outside perspective it definitely feels like she’s fallen off. Whereas her last era I couldn’t escape her no matter what, I’ve barely noticed she’s put new music out this time round. I remember a big noise about her new hair/look recently but that’s about all. I like her though, so I hope she isn’t a one-and-done; she’s obviously very talented and an interesting artist - fingers crossed it’s just a mini slump. It’s always hard when the previous era has been huge too, anything less than that for a new album always makes it seem like it’s not doing as well, even if things are fine. I’m sure she probably is doing great in reality, she just doesn’t seem to be capturing the zeitgeist in the same way - but that’s a hard thing to pull off every time. It's so weird to me that these days there are two types of music fans: the ones who enjoy consuming music as it comes out throughout the year, and the ones who stan charts and numbers. Why do people care so much about who is performing the best? Y'all aren't record execs, you aren't getting paid, you're supposed to be the consumer who enjoys it I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin. She’s a real artist who doesn’t rush or force her music, she takes her time to make something she’s proud of, doesn’t stick herself in a box and allows herself to change and evolve, doesn’t fit a marketable pop star mold. However, because she’s so talented and creative, whatever she’s made so far has stood on its own and earned her the notoriety she deserves. she dared to be different to everything else that was currently selling, and the risk paid off. (Sound familiar? Gaga, Billie...) Not a risk record labels want to make when they can pump out a new one hit wonder each year and be guaranteed money, but the result is so much better imo I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
