My teen niece is a fan so I go by her bc I'm not into her music. She said Your Power is good but the rest are "meh"

I think it’s cool she’s following her instincts and doing the music she wants to do. But I’ll be honest, I thought the last 2 singles were a bit of a snooze fest.

I see her being another Lorde whereas she had her moment but it came and went

  • FATCAT changed the title to "Lost Cause" underperforming Billie's previous singles

"declining" is pretty harsh language & is low-key flamebaity so I've amended the title. I feel like that better encapsulates the discussion, since it's clear those numbers are "decline" for her, not as the standard for others int he industry.

What I like about Billie is that her music reflects exactly what she felt during that time. WWAFAWDWG was made when she was 15 and 16, so that highly influenced that album. Now she's a young woman, trying to find her place as an adult in the world during a pandemic. She keeps writing about things that are important to her.

And yes, her music can't please everyone and someday she may decline fame-wise, but that's okay and normal for the music industry. Nobody is there to stay #1 forever.

Ew, David!

Your Power and Lost Cause... two underwhelming songs in a row

"4th single" is not the main reason lol nobody knows or cares which one is 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The songs are just not great as her debut album tracks.

I don't think the singles from WWAFAWDWG did really well either except Bad Guy? People cared mostly about the album I think

Her 4th single didn't make the Top 10???? She really should cancel her career then!

I was about to say this. The only two genuine hits off of the album were Bad Guy and When the Party's Over, with Bad Guy being the clear standout. The other songs ranged from decent to underwhelming chart runs. The droplets all faired pretty well, but I think it's hard to compare purely because of the time they were released.

She's not helped matters by releasing outside of a normal tracking week, but I think that's personally more of a sign that she's not really all that interested in smashing and is content to put the tracks out and have that be that. It's frustrating as a fan sure, but she's doing what her heart tells her and I think that alone is pretty unique and interesting.

Bad Guy was literally her only big hit yet people like to pretend she was a singles chart ruler all along... it's her album that did wonders and outsold your favs even in 2020

Two things:

1. Noone stays on top forever

2. It seems like she's consciously chosen to make less commercial music now. And I think the heavy beats and edgy subject matter of WWAFAWDWG was kinda a phase for her. Not many teens can express their teen angst in music like she did, but she's an adult now and you can hear that shift in her music

WWAFAWDWG heavy beats? :lmao:
Edgy subjects and production of course
