How can y’all be so clueless on what Vogue is about? Ballroom culture, hello? And how important and legendary it was for a mainstream artist to give visibility to a queer scene? In the 90s? I’m just so flabbergasted that y’all really don’t know that Vogue is the embodiment of a queer anthem. Not only that, but it’s been one for far longer than BTW has and definitely had a stronger and more significant impact considering the time period it came out. Madonna making a music video and performing with poc queer members of ballroom culture in the 90s was groundbreaking.

I know what Vogue is about thank you

it's also not that serious lol

The thing about Vogue is: It apropriates poc queer culture, turned it into a fad and it was out of fashion when the hype of the song ended.

Madonna’s intention was never to claim ballroom culture as her own, as a matter of fact, she pushed it forward to mainstream attention. She has never stopped talking, since the beginning of her career, about how thankful and appreciative she is of queer culture and the LGBT community for supporting her and uplifting her since before she was even a famous artist. You should check out this speech she gave (even though I suspect you won’t). People saying Madonna “appropriates” queer culture shows how little they actually know about the activism she has been doing for her entire career.

I'm not stupid...I know what the song is about but you yourself just said it...it brings to focus ONE sub culture of the gay community whereas BTW included everyone...

I for one have ZERO connection to the ballroom scene and don't vogue so yes the song in itself is catchy and timeless but the message is speaking to a very narrow audience whether in the 90s or now...

Yes but it’s still a song that speaks about queer culture, so how can it not be a pride anthem? Don’t diminish the song just because “it only speaks to a narrow audience” or “You have now connection to ballroom scene”.

But in the context of the poll...what's the BIGGEST pride anthem out of them all?

It has to be BTW...

People here pretending Vogue shined a light on LGBT culture lololol y’all are really funny. Only person that benefitted from that song was Madonna.

The thing about Vogue is: it gave visibility to a culture and a minority that was totally invisible in the mainstream media, turned it into an opportunity for poc queen culture to be seen and recognized, and it became one of the biggest hits of all time.

We all know that, but the issues with apropriation are still there, it turned ballroom culture into a fad and that is so sad. Making other people's culture into a fad is a terrible thing.

I am authistic, so don't be offended if I make a mess sometimes.

Voted for Gagz. Shook that it's Madge vs Gaga. I adore and grew up with Vogue...wouldn't consider it a "pride anthem" tho...

How is Vogue beating Born This Way :deadbanana:

Madonna was seen at a Best Buy buying hundreds of laptops. She created 20 different accounts in each one and has a team of 1,000 people designated just to help her win this.

Jk hahaha.

I think people don't understand what an anthem actually is.

I mean I love BTW but come on. I'm coming out or I will Survive is the epitome of the LGBT anthems.

Many of you don't seem to realize that Madonna did shine a light on the voguing scene back in the days, which was a pretty big deal for this community. Saying Vogue did nothing for the LGBT community is pretty ignorant tbh.
