I mean you could argue that Vogue is a better song, but how is it a pride anthem other than gay people like Madonna?

Vogueing was a powerful dance movement that originated in 70's and 80's New York among the predominantly black gay community in Harlem.

THIS IS GAGADAILY :cryga:

Ok but fine I guess that's an acceptable answer :vegas:

Now explain why Man! I feel like a Woman (shania twain) is on the list.  :ally:

Vogue has been a pride anthem for years. I have yet to be at a pride anywhere in the world (four different countries so far) and not heard it. The lyrics are not explicitly about being gay but it’s message of being who you are and living your best life regardless of any resistance is the whole message of pride. That’s not to mention that Voguing in general was invented by the gay community.

The thing about Vogue is: It apropriates poc queer culture, turned it into a fad and it was out of fashion when the hype of the song ended.

I am authistic, so don't be offended if I make a mess sometimes.

I can't explain that one. I'm just as baffled as you are. It's a female empowerment anthem and shouldn't be on this list.

I know we all stick to our faves, but some people are just showing some deep historical ignorance.

The fact some people here are dismissing Vogue's relevance at the height of the AIDS crisis, originating from a predominantly black gay community in Harlem, and the meaning it had at the time and continues to have, can only be the product of ignorance or bias.

A song isn't a gay anthem because it spells out LGBT, but because of the historical connections and ramifications it has.

Vogue is an iconic gay anthem and has been so for 30 years. BTW is too, but the product of another time. And it isn't an online poll that will dictate the place both these songs occupy in music history.

The thing about Vogue is: it gave visibility to a culture and a minority that was totally invisible in the mainstream media, turned it into an opportunity for poc queen culture to be seen and recognized, and it became one of the biggest hits of all time.

Vogue is LGBT without the LB :triggered:

I almost said T and then I remembered Pose.

It’s literally an homage to ballroom culture tho, it’s the definition of a queer anthem. Y’all don’t seem to quite grasp the importance of the song and how it shined light on queer culture and gave it mainstream visibility, AND on the 90s to be exact. Let’s not be delusional just cuz we want Gaga to win.

How is Vogue beating Born This Way :deadbanana:

How can y’all be so clueless on what Vogue is about? Ballroom culture, hello? And how important and legendary it was for a mainstream artist to give visibility to a queer scene? In the 90s? I’m just so flabbergasted that y’all really don’t know that Vogue is the embodiment of a queer anthem. Not only that, but it’s been one for far longer than BTW has and definitely had a stronger and more significant impact considering the time period it came out. Madonna making a music video and performing with poc queer members of ballroom culture in the 90s was groundbreaking.

Vogue is a good choice and very representative.

That said, I voted for Born This Way because of what it meant to me.
