Applause and RoM were radio hits because her label paid for them to get played at the top of the hour on release day. And after that Applause legit struggled to get played for a bit.

 

No shh, your destroying the illusion that Gaga is the only huge artist who earnt it :enigma:

No but everyone who is famous does it. Then after if it sticks, it sticks. For example whenever Gaga releases something new it always gets instant residency on TTH on Spotify, it gets played every hour on the radio, it gets billboards sponsored by Spotify, Amazon and Apple.. etc.. All that is payed with hella money. Mainstream music industry revolves around payola and I don’t think it’s necessary bad BUT payola all you want if general public doesn’t like your song, you are doomed. 
 

So.. Is it ethical by definition? No. But did it become acceptable in todays climate? Yes. Will it help? Maybe.
