What we're not gonna do is reference a bogus conspiracy theory that Bernie was "cheated" in a "rigged" primary, which inspired Trump to do the same thing, which led to insurrection at the Capitol. This kind of thinking on both sides is dangerous, unfounded and destabilizes democracy. Cut it out.

The GOP is kind of effed when it comes to Trump. He still holds so much sway over his base, so he’s incredibly influential when it comes to GOP primaries and thus can’t be ignored. However, no independent voter will ever vote for him again after covid and the insurrection (and of course no dem either), so he’s a lame duck when it comes to a future presidential bid.

This is not about “lifting up” Cheney.  This is about defeating this attempt to deconstruct American democracy.  It’s ok to completely disagree with Liz Cheney politically and to to hope a democrat defeats her.  But at least we know we can agree on the basic principles of our laws and constitution.  Her and other republicans speaking out against Trumpism is very important.

This is totally about lifting up Cheney to "stick it to Trump." Just like before it was lifting up Romney, Bush Jr., etc. Her father and his right-hand man were instrumental in deconstructing democracy starting in 2000 with that stolen election and then proceeding to erode every single American constitutional right outside of 2A. She does not differ much at all from that same ideology. Trumpism = Republicanism. They are the same thing when boiled down. Just one is more overt. She and those others just don't like it because Trump is so brazen and brings the attention to them, whereas they were so used to operating in the exact same manner, just under a "palatable" guise. The Republican Party and it's leaders and most of its voters are bigoted, xenophobic, poor-hating, anti-democratic people. They always have been. They always will be.

I mean, this is really undetermined, and it's very plausible he could win if he ran again. He only narrowly lost the last election due to his fumbling of Covid-19 (if he had just respected it and done even the bare minimum, he probably would've won), and now with the census results in again, many Democratic states took a loss in Congressional seats and Electoral College votes, while some Republican states gained. Not much to really swing an election necessarily. But if all these Republican legislatures (which the majority of states in the US have because Democrats continue to focus on Federal electoral politics instead of actually investing in a competent nationwide state oriented strategy) keep passing restrictive laws, and continue to redistrict the country to hell, a Republican Presidential candidate, including Trump, could still stand a chance. Trump still holds high numbers with party voters, and a lot can happen in state legislatures in three+ years.
